If you want to get away and explore Acadia National Park, Acadia Cottages are for you! These charming cottages are a short walk from "downtown" Southwest Harbor, which includes cute shops with jewelry and art among other things crafted in Maine as well as a deli and restaurants. The harbor is walking distance and a variety of boating trips are available. The Acadia National Park Loop Road is a short drive away, and Bar Harbor shops and restaurants await you when are ready to take a break from hiking, biking, kayaking and breathtaking scenery! This was my family's first trip to Maine, and we loved coming "home" to our very private cottage #15 after a long day of Acadia adventures. We bought groceries and enjoyed preparing our breakfast in our very clean kitchenette. My husband and I loved the rustic feel of the cottage and the bedroom had a vaulted ceiling with a ceiling fan. Our son liked sleeping on the pullout bed located in the living area. The bathroom was small with a tiny shower stall, but other than that the cottage was wonderful. We stayed for 7 days and did take advantage of using the laundry room; we were pleasantly surprised that detergent was provided, all we needed were a few quarters to operate the washer and dryer and there was no wait! The owners were welcoming complete with a home made cookies filled container left for our arrival, yet our privacy was respected and we never experienced an annoying knock on the door followed by, "housekeeping". Wonderful place, we'd stay there again.

Room Tip: Cottage #15 was just right for our family of three with a private bedroom and pullout sofa bed in th...

I've reviewed Acadia Cottages twice before (see 2008 and 2011), and with new owners in place since our last stay in 2012, I wanted to quickly note that nothing has changed: This is still THE place to stay on MDI. Tom and Vickie have done a superb job in their first season, and our recent eight-day stay in "our" Cabin 8 (our sixth stay overall) couldn't have been more pleasant. The only hitch (if you can even call it that) was very minor--a slow air leak in one of the kids' air mattresses--and it was addressed immediately by Tom. The cleanliness and efficiency that have been the hallmark of this property remain among its many excellent features. Not much more I can say that hasn't been said already by me and other reviewers previously, so just go and enjoy!

We spent two nights at Arcadia Cottages and were quite pleased with our experience. What a quiet and relaxing place to begin our two week holiday. The cottage (number 10) was clean and comfortable. Towels and sheets were amazing. This proprietor really cares about both the environment and the comfort of his customers. Would love to return and stay longer

It is always a pleasure to return to Acadia Cottages. I wasn't sure what to expect with the new owners but Tom and Vicki are wonderful hosts. The studio cottage is perfect for the couple that wants to truly relax. We brought most of our own food so we could use the kitchenette. Who doesn't want to sit on the deck and listen to the bullfrogs as you enjoy an adult beverage with your dinner. It is quiet and peaceful and for someone that is constantly going this is a great way to relax and enjoy nature.

Room Tip: Get your reservation early if you want something larger than the studio size.

These little cottages have everything that you might need. Books on the park, flashlights, day packs for hiking, swim towels for the lakes - they were all available. On top of that, although on a few hundred square feet, the cottages have everything that you need. The kitchenettes are perfect for making breakfast before heading out for a long day of seeing the park. Additionally, the location is perfect. We preferred Southwest Harbor over Bar Harbor because it was not near as busy or commercialized. From the cottages you have several restaurants, shops, etc within a short walk. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. I can't say enough good things about Acadia Cottages, and we hope to be back in the future.

We loved our recent stay at Acadia Cottages. We stayed in Cottage 4 and it was perfect! The cottage was very clean, cozy, peaceful and quiet.

The property itself is very tidy and "green" oriented, which I loved!!! There's lots of great local info at the Acadia Cottage office. The staff is very friendly, helpful and made us feel right at home. Fresh baked homeade cookies were in our cottage when we arrived!

Wi-fi and TV w/ VCR (nice VHS library in office) were in our cottage, but if you're planning on a lot of sightseeing or hiking you won't need or want these amenities. Within easy walking distance of several shops and restaurants.

If you're looking to unplug and hear only the sound of frogs at night, or perhaps rain or thunder as we did during our stay, then this is the place for you!

My husband and I recently returned from a week in Acadia, and could not have been happier with our stay at Acadia Cottages.

Tom and Vicky made our stay extra special from start to finish- from the cookies in our cottage upon check-in, to printing maps for us when needed, suggesting hikes, trails, sightseeing, restaurants, and places to buy lobster. They even loaned us a lobster pot to cook our own DIY Maine dinner.

We stayed in a studio cottage, #4, which looks out over a little frog pond. It was just right for us- plenty of space for two people. We loved being able to make some of our own meals, and having a full-sized refrigerator was also great!

Acadia Cottages has a ton of extra perks that you only find with small, family run places like this. The office was filled with Maine travel guides, books, and literature that guests can borrow for their stay, trail maps and pamphlets for the whole island, plenty of movies you can borrow on a rainy day, a computer with internet access and printer if needed, and even umbrellas. We were also given keys for locked bike storage to keep our bikes for the week. Small charcoal grills are available to borrow if you like grilling.

We loved staying in Southwest Harbor, as it is the "quiet side" of MDI. Acadia Cottages was within walking or biking distance to plenty of restaurants and lobster pounds, and also to a bus stop for the free shuttle bus that can help you get to any point on the island if you don't feel like driving.

We would recommend this place to family and friends in a heartbeat, and hope we can make our way back some day soon!

Room Tip: We loved cabin #4 and have also heard great things about #11
