“Quiet Locale”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

We wanted to go to Bar Harbor/Acadia but didn't want all the tourist trappings. We were delighted by the Seawall Motel. It is simple, clean, and friendly. Guests all meet in the office for a continentral breakfast and can exchange travel ideas. The staff is also very helpful in suggesting options. WHile it is a bit of a drive to go back and forth to Acadia Cadillac Mtn. or Bar Harbor, it is worth it. We spent days hiking, taking a lighthouse tour by boat, and gliding - and were happy to return to Southwest at night for the quiettude. The rooms are pretty spartan - but it had everything we needed. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: For a view - try to get a 2 level room

My wife and I just stayed at the Seawall Motel; one of the reasons was because we wanted to stay further away from the overly-touristy (and frankly dull/Disneylike) Bar harbor. Southwest Harbor town is much nicer, genuine. And the Seawall Motel is just a couple minutes further down the road in an idea location. Within a couple minutes drive is "Wonderland", just a short hike to wonderful large rocks on the sea. I could have been happy staying days longer in this location of the island. The owner, Dave (hope I got the name right) is an amiable man who takes an interest in his guests. Due to the friendliness of the staff, we're returning!
Oh, another reviewer mentioned the "barricade" blocking the view of the sea. That's not exactly true. Coming out of our room each morning, we had a great view of the ocean and breathed in the fresh sea air.
Delightful place. You wont' regret it. Oh, it's clean as any motel I've been in.

Room Tip: second floor rooms have the best seaview

My husband and I stayed there 3 nights. We wanted the quiet quaint side of Acadia. Right acroos the Natural Sea Wall. This was the perfect location, it was near restaurants, shops and highways. The motel room was very roomy. We had a parking spot right outside our room. Continental Breakfast is served in the office. Coffee and tea is served form 7am to 9pm. Free WiFi. It has washer and dryer available. The Staff is absolutely wonderful.

Not to be missed:
--The Common Good Place is on the grounds and they serve delicious Popovers from 7-11:30am.
--Captain Nemo, very local place with billiards and scrumptious sweet potato fries.
--If you love Mexican Food – Amigos del Diablo in Bar Harbor, nice tacos and burritos (very reasonably priced).

Room Tip: This is an older motel - it does not have an elevator.

Hard to know how to rate this - the location is great and compared to the crowds in Bar Harbour it is a wonderfully tranquil spot. The staff are great, rooms spotless and breakfast more than adequate. The price is amazingly good. It is basic and a little outdated, so not going to suit everyone. The cat is definitely centre of attention, a real character.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have better view of he ocean

Not exactly what we expected! The pictures on the website were clearly taken before the stockade fence was built between them and the ocean! The people were nice, as was the expanded continental breakfast. The deference paid to Speedbump was hilarious! I could have done with a little more soundproofing, without someone else's Fritos on the floor in the room, and without the long-dead bug in the bathroom.

Room Tip: Your one shot at seeing the ocean is to get a second floor room.

I am sorry that you didn’t find our place to your liking. The stockade fence was built a year or so before we bought the property (14 years ago), and all of the photos we have used have been taken in the last year or two. IF one of my house keepers did a lousy job of vacuuming, I apologize, and have taken steps to be sure it doesn’t happen again.’Clean’ is one of our most important values. We mop and sanitize the bathroom floors between each guest, so while the bug may have been dead, he couldn’t have been that way long. Thanks for keeping us on our toes. We value all of the feedback we get, and really like most of it!

Arrived in the middle of a rain storm. Our room was oversized and very clean. The bed was comfortable. Very quiet at night. The staff gave helpful suggestions on what to do on a stormy day. The sun came out finally and the view is beautiful. Speedbump, the cat, is very friendly and checks out everyone. The breakfast selection while small was more than adequate. The staff was helpful with dinner suggestions and hiking recommendations. Found out that lots of cruise ships come into Bar Harbor and so were glad we were on the quiet side. Not a place for people that want shops and restaurants close by. However, we felt safe leaving our windows open all the time even when we were gone during the day. Can't beat the price.

Room Tip: Stay in second floor room in the middle. Up from the parking lot and don't get the noise from p...

We stayed here from Sept.7 until Sept.13th. We enjoyed great coffee, bagels, cereals and more each morning before heading out to hike or bike. It was great to return to nice hot showers with good water pressure. Everyone was helpful and friendly. It's really an outstanding place! Hope to return in December.

A short drive from these trails is the Bass Harbor Lighthouse that has been guiding mariners with its light since 1858. The dramatic setting, especially at sunset, is a photographer's dream. The Seawall Motel sits directly across from the famed seawall and close proximity to many activities of what the park has to offer. It is a two-story Motel with free Wi-Fi, in-room phones, cable TV and complimentary continental breakfast.
