We believe that we enjoyed this hotel the most during our 5 night stay on the island. It is nestled just across the street from the Natural Seawall. Enjoyed the quiet side and was able to enjoy the sunrise on the rocks of the shore. Great owners! Did not have a small refrigerator in the room, which was OK as this was our last night, but it would have nice to have one if we had stayed there longer.
Great value for what you get...you can walk right across the street to see the sunrise and not have to drive and drive to get to see something so beautiful!

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms closer to the road in order to have a better view. We had room 15 and that was...

We enjoyed a stay at this basic inexpensive motel. The room was spacious and clean. There is no blow dryer, coffeemaker or iron in the room. To get an iron/ironing board or blow dryer, you need to go down to the office and they will give you one or they will bring it up to your room. You can get coffee from the office too. If they ever decide to put these items in the rooms, there will definitely be enough room, as the room is big. Our first night there, we could hear our very noisy neighbours but the second night, all was quiet even though the rooms next to us were occupied.

Staff was extremely helpful and worked well together.

The location is an easy drive to Acadia Mountain and St Saveur Mountain, as well as Beech Cliffs, Perpendicular Trail and Flying Mountain, all on the western part of the island.

The Islander bus will stop in front of the motel (ask at the office for times etc) and it seems to be very frequent except in the evening.

The very worthwhile Common Good Cafe is next door.

Room Tip: Rooms 19 and 20 on the second floor provide the best views.

The Seawall is a marvelous surprise wedged on the water between gorgeous Arcadia and its campgrounds and the tourista-packed hubbub of Bar Harbor. We arrived late, having found ourselves on the "quietside" of the island watching a gorgeous sunset while attempting to track down the relative who had invited us to stay with him. Finding no relative and a lot of rocks and trees, we were sent by a store owner to the Seawall. Our welcome by the owners was warm and wonderfully accommodating. It's a simple motel, sited across from the seawall and just across the quiet road from the water. Our room was spotless! Indeed, not sure I've ever stayed in any motel/hotel room that had been so meticulously cleaned. Cleanliness usually being the primary concern when staying at a "basic" motel, it was a pleasure from that point forward. Basic, yes, but spacious, functional and the owners extended confidence that, if there was anything else we needed, they'd do their best to make it happen. The next morning provided another wonderful surprise: a building on the property is the site of Popovers, operated by a community group called Common Good. Yes, their freshly baked popovers are wonderful, but so are the volunteers and the work they do in the community throughout the year funded by their breakfast sales in the summer. The group hosts "Cabin Fever" Saturday night music and makes and delivers soup/meals to those in the community who are unable to attend or get out during the week. The volunteers are enthusiastic and will tell you, quietly, that "what's missing in our country is a strong sense of community." They certainly have it and the work they do teaching healthy eating, working with kids and residents, etc. is clearly community-building. Between the warmth and simplicity of the motel, the owners' cooperative and supportive relationship with Common Good and the community breakfast (with a gentleman playing the mandolin that morning!), the Seawall is a great find! It was a pleasure to be made a part of it!

Room Tip: Lower level is convenient, upper level has a gorgeous view....

A basic motel but quiet and scenic location at tip of the island. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We received a wealth of tips & guidance on what to do which made a huge difference for us as first-time visitors to the area. Location is about a half-hour's drive from the main portion of the park and from Bar Harbor. Breakfast area is small, but forces conversation with other guests, which proved enjoyable. Nearby Gott's General Store was a worn looking locals-only type place we'd never have ventured into without a tip from staff, but there we found huge deli sandwiches excellent for those like us trying to dine on the cheap. No AT&T cell phone coverage at motel location, but good wifi.

Room Tip: 2nd floor has better views of park & ocean front.

This place has a great view, especially if you are located on the far end closer to the water. It also has a good heater for colder nights. That being said, what you can expect is a decent basic room. The beds are good and it is a BIG room. Bathroom is basic. No coffee maker in room but it is provided in the downstairs breakfast area. My only concern was that the floors are somewhat noisy which was surprising because it seems so solidly built. The managers are great people and friendly. In fact, if you need anything, they will try to help as much as possible. I agree with the others when they say that the rooms are clean. Relaxing and away from the bustle of Bar Harbor.

We had a wonderful time chatting with Dave and Speed Bump the Cat! The room was comfortable, clean and had a fantastic view. There were amenities (soap & shampoo). The breakfast was plentiful with delicious hot coffee. The atmosphere was warm friendly and very laid-back, just the right place to relax for a weekend. We will definitely be back again!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the second floor (no elevator) the view is amazing!

Hospitality was superior - Dave and Vicki really run a "salon" here every morning over breakfast, so feel free to join in the conversation, with local Mainers as well as out-of-state guests! Room was very clean and comfortable; amenities (soap and shampoo) were especially nice. Close attention is paid to environmental needs and people's sensitivities. We stayed an extra day, in a large part because we were so comfortable, even though it was the off-season. If you go, and we hope you do, tell them Chris and Steve said hello....

Room Tip: Room 20 has the best view as well as a very comfortable king size bed.

A short drive from these trails is the Bass Harbor Lighthouse that has been guiding mariners with its light since 1858. The dramatic setting, especially at sunset, is a photographer's dream.
