Went to The Upper Deck tonight for dinner after driving all day to get to Bass Harbor. Not the best choice for dinner. Should have gone to Beal's Lobster Pier. The last time we were in this area was in 2000, and thought we'd try something different. Sorry we did! The service was horrendous. The appetizer we ordered never made it to our table, although we were charged for it on the final bill. Waited for what seemed forever for our food. We ordered the lobster dinners, and waited at least half an hour. (I know that lobsters don't take half an hour to boil up, we've done it before, ourselves.) One person in our party ordered the clam chowder, and it came, but she never got a spoon. We kept waiting for the waiter to return to our table so we could tell him to bring a spoon. After at least ten more minutes, my husband finally got up and went inside to ask someone for a spoon. By the time, she got her spoon, the chowder was cold. The food was just so-so, although the roasted corn on the cob was excellent. After the meal, we ordered a couple of pieces of key lime pie to go, and ended up waiting at least another half an hour for our final bill. The view from the deck is spectacular. Too bad the food and the service didn't match the view. We won't return.
