The Craignair is one of the most beautiful places that I have stayed. just walking out on Clark Island, coming back and sitting on the porch with the view is great.

Room Tip: Call ahead and ask for room #6

A Bed and Breakfast on the coast of Maine seemed like a fitting change from the hotels and motels on our recent trip to New England. Our research eliminated B&B’s without a water view, and while most were jacking up prices for the “leaf peepers,” Craignair Inn was offering a Fall Foliage special, 3 nights for the price of 2. Sometimes a website can be deceiving, but Craignair delivered everything as advertised from the views to the homey room to the nicely portioned gourmet breakfasts. We stayed in room #26 in the Vestry with a double window facing the bay and another open to Clark Island and the inlet. I drafted this review while sitting on the spacious balcony outside our room, nothing but the silver bay, distant islands, and the Atlantic between me and the morning sun. It helped that we were the only ones up there our first two nights. Breakfast in the dining area with big view windows was always a treat from homemade sausage to a freshly baked blueberry muffin into which another blueberry could not have been squeezed. Delicious and different each morning.
We were treated exceptionally well at Craignair Inn and even after as Innkeeper Joanne O’Shea packaged and shipped the coat which my wife left behind. It almost beat us home.

Room Tip: Room #26 in the Vestry has a double view.

My husband and I stayed overnight in the main building of the Craignair Inn. We had contracted for a room with a shared bath, but Joanne placed us in an en suite room at no additional charge, since she was painting the other room. Both the room and the bathroom were small but very clean; the bathroom would have benefited from some shelves, and there were no complimentary shampoos, etc., so the accommodations seemed a bit bare-bones. However, there was a tv in the room, and the bed was comfortable. Downstairs was a spacious and inviting sitting room and a large dining room, where breakfast was served (the restaurant was open for dinners only on weekends by the time we visited). The hot breakfast was quite nice, with homemade sausage and delicious blueberry crepes -- nothing spartan about that! And the family's adorable dog kept everyone company without being a pest, which is no small feat. The folks who own this place are very nice and seem determined to make guests feel welcome there. Since they have owned the property for only a couple of years, they are busy updating it. The location is quite nice, overlooking the water and the nearby island where hiking is encouraged. In short, if you don't mind rather simple and homey accommodations, there is much to recommend this B&B.

We were lucky enough to stop at the Craignair Inn during a brief trip to Maine this past September. Our welcome was warm and friendly, and our room was spotless, comfortable and very homey. As we were new to that area of Maine, Joanne was able to set up our tickets for the Monhegan Island ferry and was extremely helpful in giving up directions to all the places we wanted to see. Dinner was delicious (I had the grilled vegetables and my mom had the crab) and the atmosphere very laid back and friendly. We relaxed with books in the parlor and enjoyed waking up to the beautiful views from our second floor window. Breakfast was another treat, especially with Mimi the Dog making us feel right at home. I cannot wait for a chance to return and cannot recommend a stay at the Craignair more highly for those looking for a quiet, relaxed rest away from the proverbial hustle and bustle.

My friends and I stayed here for one night. The property rooms are in two buildings, on the site of an old stone quarry and these accommodations were originally for the quarry workers. Rooms are decorated in country style. We stayed in the building away from the main building. We did enjoy the meals (breakfast included was a very good omelet; dinner the night before was pecan crusted salmon), they were excellent and reasonably priced for area. We entertained ourselves with a game in the living room before dinner and this room is overcrowded with furniture. The rooms we stayed in could use some upgrading, the bathroom was very small and needed better lighting over the sink. We were surprised at the hot pink nylon type sheets on the beds. TV is very small, an old 20" or so. We stayed at this property on our way to Bar Harbor so it was fine for one night. Joanne and MIchael are very nice hosts.

July 17 2010, we were married at the Inn. It was the owners first wedding, and you would have thought they had been at it for years. Everything went perfect. So if you are looking for a place to hold your ceremony and reception, try heree.
July 17, 2011- Returned to the Inn for our anniversay. What can i say. It was amazing. The owners Joann and Mike are wonderful. They have made this Inn theirs and it shows.

My friends and I came up here for the night for a "Mustang Cruise." It was the most wonderful experience I have ever had a Bed and Breakfast. The owners knew that the room my boyfriend and I had reserved didn't have a view so they switched it for a comparable room with a view. Dinner was EXCELLENT! I would drive the 3.5 hours just to have dinner again. The "sunrise" was pretty...we only saw a bit of it because of the fog. The view was outstanding but wear bug spray if you go walking down the path. Breakfast was also decilious. My only complaint is the shower. They are small and I was either burning myself or freezing!

I can't wait to come back here!
