We were welcomed by Jessie and Alva into a comfortable home atmosphere where much of the dinning expierance occurs. The room included many of the art created by Alva the multi talented male half of this talented couple. Reservation are required because you pre order your meal.
My wife's Halibut steak and my spinach souffle were wonderfully prepared. We began with Sautéed Shrimp and Tomato Basil Soup and ended with scrumptious Blueberry pie ala mode. Put this wonderful Eatery on your list.....you will not be disappointed.

My husband and I visited Maine for the first time and made a point of driving 1 hour to have dinner not once but 3 times during our visit. While getting closer to the location we could not miss this place simply by its beautiful presence. The wild flowers flanked by vegetable gardens in the front yard. This was simply the teaser to what awaited us. We delighted at the entire atmosphere. The kitchen with it's rafter adorned with baskets and well crafted work areas. We were most impressed with the personality of our hosts (Alva and Jessie) projected in the details of their home: Alva's artwork decorates the home and his craftiness is evident in/about the home. Venturing to the backyard garden areas left us awed by the many organically grown food including fresh eggs from their chickens.

Now the meals -seafood stew (loaded with lobster/halibut/shrimp/scallops) and proceeded by a beautiful presentation of cheeses and crackers appetizer. Salad from the gardens was so delicious. If you have never had lobster quesadia (excuse the spelling error) you have to get some here. Our last meal was steamed whole lobsters with the sweetest yellow potatoes we have ever eaten in our lives. We asked for wine and had four to choose from. No matter the request our host accommodated them and the presentations of the meals were impressive in line with the desire to please guests. They say the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the little extra and it is notable that these hosts do not fall short of superb.

WE visit the kitchen garden every summer. It is by far the best Jamacian/carabbean fare in the state. I am assuming from the reaction of the other dinners all the food is great but frankly i always order the jerk chicken as it is over the top fantastic! The soups are fresh with a hint of coconut and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The service is great and I plan to visit again as soon as I can

Alvah and Jessie, the owners of the Kitchen Garden, offer a unique dining experience. They invite you into their home with friendliness and fine food. Everything is fresh and they try to use organic ( often grown by them). The only requirement is a reservation and letting them know what you want for your courses (salad, entree, and dessert). This insures freshness and quality
service as well. There is a corkage fee which many restaurants require when liquor is not part of the menu. Our dining experience was above great and we would highly recommend a trip to the Kitchen Garden in the tiny Maine town of Steuben.

The Kitchen Garden is one of our go-to special-treat restaurants. Jessie and Alva, the hosts/owners/chefs welcome you into their home and serve the most wonderful meals with graciousness and warmth. I've never had anything less than stellar there. All the food is locally sourced--much of it from the owners' own garden. Fresh-baked bread served in handmade baskets, beautiful food presentation, interesting menu options. Bring your own wine (there is a small corkage fee) and enjoy a fabulous meal in a lovely setting.
