“Best of the best”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

We have stayed in numerous B&Bs in both Europe and the US, and I must say that Wave Walker ranks at the top. Hospitality? Donna and Phil go out of their way to make you feel comfortably at home. My wife's ancestors lived near Surry, and Donna not only shared a map with important information, but walked down the road to take a photo of a likely family home. Facility? Wave Walker is part of a beautiful new house with a stunning view of the bay with Acadia on the opposite shore. Location? Enjoy life away from the hideous crowds elsewhere in Maine, and walk along a picturesque shore. I short, I highly recommend Wave Walker and hope to return.

Room Tip: Donna and Phil are very responsive in communicating about their B&B. Contact them first. And dis...

We spent 5 glorious days and 4 wonderful nights at the Wave Walker B&B in Surry, ME. This was only the 2nd B&B we've ever stayed, but boy, were we spoiled!

First, I must say, kudos to the owners, Phil and Donna, for their ability to turn their home into a warm and welcoming place. They are great hosts who have figured out exactly what is necessary to run an A+++ B&B. We stayed in the “Captain's Quarters”, which is the largest of the 4 rooms at the main house. They also have a guest house on the property. If you choose to go, I highly recommend the Captain's Quarters. The room is quite spacious with a king-sized Sleep Comfort bed. The room also has 2 very comfortable recliners, in which you can sit and look out into the Union River Bay as well as the mountains beyond. The room includes a flat screen television, dorm size refrigerator and microwave. Upon arrival, we found a fruit basket, cheese, bottles of water and truffles. On our return from our daily excursions, we found replenished truffles and bottles of water. Coffee and tea are available 24hrs.

The enormous bathroom has a jacuzzi that accommodates 2, as well as a walk-in shower with a choice of 3 different shower heads. The separate toilet room includes a bidet.

Breakfast each morning was a delight! Apparently Donna rises before the sun and begins her artful creations: fruit cups with a variety of fruit perfectly paired or baked pear in a sweetened yogurt. And these were starters. The main dish might be an apple pancake, baked egg on muffin crabmeat quiche or french toast stuffed with cream cheese and raspberries. Each meal was skillfully and artistically prepared - and it tasted good, too!

I'm sure many hotels or inns may boast having wonderful rooms with great views and a chef that's bar none. What makes Wave Walker stand out is not only does it have both of these, but so much more. There was a full library in the room, glasses and a bucket for champagne or other chilled beverages. There were fresh flowers in each room. The gas-powered fireplace was cozy. The private deck for watching the stars or the sunrise was, well, private. The jacuzzi had a variety of bath salts and bubbles to choose from. The shower had shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, plus other options on the dual vanities. There were extra towels in the closet, a well stocked medicine cabinet with band-aids, cough medicine, even feminine hygiene products! And there was so much more. This is not business-as-usual cookie cutter kind of place, but the handiwork of folks who enjoy having guests in their home. And that's exactly what it felt like: being a guest at the home of friends.

Room Tip: Captain's Quarters - fabulous!

We stayed four nights in late Sept/early Oct at the Wave Walker. We cannot say enough about the great hospitality shown us by Donna and Phil. One's every need was taken care of from the beautiful rooms(we stayed in Elizabeth and Esther's rooms) to the special added touches such as daily truffles and fruit bowl left in the rooms. Donna's cooking is fantastic-you never left the table feeling hungry. In fact it was often 3 o'clock before we had lunch!!
The rooms were immaculate. The view from Elizabeth's room was spellbinding each morning as we watched the beautiful sunrises.
Cannot say enough about this lovely location. It was a vacation to remember.

Donna & Phil do a wonderful job of making you feel welcome in their home! The setting of their beautiful B&B is simply gorgeous, looking out over the bay, watching cormorants, hummingbirds, and loons, and listening to the waves lapping on the shore. The pumpkin and blueberry muffins, the apple pancakes, the crab quiche, the caramelized pears and yogurt... Now that we're back home, first move is to diet... All were simply delicious!

Room Tip: The green room was lovely, with its own little porch.

We stayed for two nights during our Maine Coast getaway, and my wife and I agree that it was one of the highlights of our trip. Beautiful room with a view of Acadia and the water, fabulous breakfasts (Donna is an amazing cook!), and homemade chocolate truffles in the room every night... I can recommend this without reservation - enjoy!

Room Tip: All of the rooms have an ocean view - it was designed to be a B&B from inception.

We love staying at B&Bs and this is one of the best! other favorite moments...watching the sunrise over Acadia National Park from our room, bald eagle in the tree backyard when we arrived, kayaking on the bay, gourmet breakfasts on the deck with the hummingbirds, and the totally at-home-feeling you have when staying with Donna and Phil . Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Phil and Donna have created a spectacular B adn B -- lovely sleeping rooms, kayaks, a gazebo for reading, delicious breakfast and non-intrusive but helpful info. But ... there is nothing there and one has to drive at least ten miles to get to anything beyond the lobster pound up the road.

Room Tip: the window seat bed in Elizabeth's room was really comfortable, although the sun came streaming...

Donna and I are glad you enjoyed your stay with us at Wave Walker. We work very hard to ensure that our guests enjoy their stay.
You are correct in that we are a little isolated, but with the location come some wonderful benefits you won’t get at a typical B & B location. Wave Walker offers an experience that is about nature, peacefulness and beauty. Yes, we are away from the din of Bar Harbor. You won’t see any city lights or street lights here. You won’t have a view of the parking lot and building just feet from your window. You will see and hear porpoise and seals from you private balcony overlooking the ocean. You will see what Downeast Magazine called the “Best Acadia View”. You will see “The Milky way” on a clear night. You may decide to spend the day enjoying nature in one of our kayaks. You may decide to take a walk on the shore just 75 feet in front of the B&B, or on our trails which meander through over 150 acres to the shore on the western side of Newbury Neck. If the action of Bar Harbor is your preference then you can be there in 50 minutes. If shopping, restaurants, and other activities are your interest then you can be there in 25 minutes.
Yes, we are a little isolated, but that is what makes Wave Walker special.
