“Excellent Exe”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

The b & b is in a beautiful location down a super quiet lane in the village.
The accommodation consists of 2 bedrooms. The main bedroom is fairly small, however because there is a second bedroom, it's no problem leaving suitcases and any other bags there.

There is a little dining table already set for breakfast which Sue delivers at whatever time suits the guests. There was a bar fridge in the dining area for guest use. Bathroom was a good size with a bath which had a shower over it and there was a plentiful supply of toiletries.

The location is A1 and the Lazy Toad Inn, a 5 minute walk from the b & b, serves good food and saves a drive into Exeter for an evening meal.
There is easy access to walking tracks along the Exe River behind the b & b.

Sue was a very friendly and attentive host; we'd have loved to spend an extra night however had week-long accommodation already booked further north.

If you love the peace and serenity of an English village and the privacy of a cozy b & b run by a most accommodating host, then look no further than Exe Valley.

Friendly hospitality and an excellent bed and breakfast. Sue, the host is very helpful and welcoming, and the rooms are spacious and beautifully kept. Every day the breakfast was DELICIOUS! Just what you need to start the day. The surroundings are stunning, and it was such a lovely peaceful place to stay. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a quiet get a way, which is very close to Exeter.
Thank you so much for a great stay.

Welcoming helpful owners but also every privacy in your own 2 bed wing of the house. Spotless, comfortable and with many thoughtful touches. The location is in a beautiful peaceful village and there are breathtaking views. I cannot recommend highly enough

Stay here for the weekdays for around 6 months... And just one word to describe it... EXCELLENT...

The host Sue is really a nice person and very friendly host. You will feel like home the moment are you in there.. The space is plenty, large double bedroom, dining space, spare room & a bathroom.

And the breakfast was delicious and healthy... Would highly recommend for short as well as long stay...

A little bit of heaven. Thank you so much Sue. More like an appartment than a B&B. We had a breakfast room, double bedroom, dressing room and lovely bathroom with an extra large bath. Loads of hot water, delicious breakfast and everything we needed. The pub in the village, which is only a short walk away is excellent. The village is only a few minutes from Exeter, so we had lovely villages, countryside and Exeter all on our doorstep. Will be back and make sure we have enough time to enjoy the lovely walks.

If you want to stay at the best place in Devon then this is it. The accommodation is idyllic. As I drove up to the building the scenery was breathtaking and as soon as I saw the place I knew it was going to be good (I was wrong - it was more than good - it was perfect). I was greeted at the door by the owner, Sue Satchell, she was most welcoming and friendly. She showed us to the property, which is an annexe to the main building. I walked through the front door to be met by a home from home in fact I'd go as far to say it was better than that. A little table was laid out beautifully in front of me. To the right of the table there was a microwave, fridge (with fresh milk waiting) and a kettle to the left was tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits cutlery, and napkins (just one of the little finishing touches that made this place so perfect). Behind me was a unit with bottled water, both still or sparkling, glasses and a pitcher and cereals. There was a form that I had to complete with what breakfast I would like (from the menu) and at what time I would like it to be served and then I had to post it through the letterbox of the house. The breakfast arrived on time and there was enough to feed a small army, not only did it look nice but it was all fresh and cooked to perfection - the taste was outstanding and another one of those little touches that i mentioned was the fresh baked loaf of bread that came with it. In the bathroom was a unit full of little potions, from shower gel to body lotion for both men and women as well as little guest soaps. The bathroom was beautifully decorated with all the finishing touches that you would want in your own home. There was two bedrooms a single and a double both very tastefully decorated and each had everything you needed in it. (we only used the double room so I will describe that but the single room also had the same). As I walked into the room there was a little note left welcoming you and explaining where things were and that everything was for our use if needed. This was on a dresser which had a book for all tastes and ages. In this were leaflets on things to do in the area, a hairdryer and two dressing gowns all for our use. In the room was a TV and CD player with c.d's and an alarm clock. The bed was beautifully made and at the foot of the bed was towels folded with a soap and shower gel on top (again the little touch that made it perfect). If I listed all the little bits and pieces that were in the property I would be here forever because Sue really has thought of everything to make your stay there the best it could possibly be. There was one thing that Sue couldn't do ...... and that was what mother nature had done already and that was as I opened the door in the evening and first thing in the morning and looked out all around me was the most beautiful sight from the River Exe to the flowering plants and shrubs. So if you would like the perfect retreat, which I would gladly have paid double for, then this is it.
