“Beautiful location but needs experienced staff”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

The Inn and the setting are beautiful, but the rooms vary dramatically depending on whether or not they have been refurbished. The linens are crisp and wonderful. The warmth experienced at similar inns is missing here. An attention to detail is lacking and response times to requests and reservations are slow. For instance, the doors from the dining room to the kitchen make a horrible jarring sound each time they are used, shaking the entire dining room. It is an easy fix, but seems to go unnoticed. There are not televisions in all the rooms, so you might inquire if it is a preference. The breakfast at the inn used to have wonderful sausage and bacon. The new brand is actually inedible. The traditional outpouring of hospitality is sorely lacking. The inn has all the makings of a wonderful place, but could benefit from trained hospitality staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room. Understand that the south side faces a working harbor which gets going...

This was my first trip to Maine, and the East Wind Inn added so much to my visit. We stayed here the night before and the night after our cruise on the Stephen Taber. As soon as I walked into the inn, I knew it would be a great experience. The lobby is like a large living room with comfortable chairs and sofas, a fireplace and a wide choice of books and newspapers. The inn was very clean. Our first night my daughter and I had a room on the second floor at the back. There was a large living room with a closet and a flat screen TV. The bed was very comfortable with great linens. The bathroom was the best, with a great walk-in shower. On our second visit we had a suite on the third floor, again very comfortable. When we returned to the inn for our second stay, we were soaked from a heavy rain. Randy put my brother's coat into the drier. Even though it wasn't noon, our rooms were ready for us. We ate one dinner in the restaurant, and two breakfasts. Do yourself a favor and order the lobster Benedict. Out of this world. The East Wind Inn is a wonderful, beautiful and quiet place.

Room Tip: Every room is a good room.

This was my first stay at East Wind Inn and I will be back. The setting is so beautiful--water views, sun rippling on the water, small boats, schooners, trees across the harbor--always something to admire. The glorious September weather added a special sensor element. My room was lovely. Large! Completely new, comfortable bed, the sheets smelled so nice and clean, the bathroom was spectacular (great glass shower with good water pressure, new tile, sink, etc.) and above all---the room and bath were spotless. Emily greeted us with welcoming charm. We dined in the restaurant where Heather served us, made us laugh, and couldn't do enough to make our dining experience at the Inn wonderful. Breakfast in the morning was great, too! Thank you! and good luck to the new owners of the Inn.

Room Tip: Wake up to beautiful morning sunshine in your windows, overlooking the water, with rooms in the fro...

Truly relaxing and non-touristy in September. Great to relax on the verandah and watch the harbor activity. Breakfast was excellent and on one rainy night we sampled both the tavern and restaurant and they were excellent and we met some very nice people!

We have been to East Wind a number of times over the years and always had a wonderful time. With the new owners, we found the apartment ( Which we have rented in the past, and our favorite) extremely clean and the bed was wonderful!

Staff was friendly and very willing to help us in any way... Looking forward to our visit next year!!!!
This is a true haven. (Tim W. would be proud.)

Room Tip: Each one is unique, all with a view, size of the bed would be the deciding factor.

We spent two nights in late August 2013 and had a lovely 2nd floor room overlooking the harbor and sea. Talked with Emily, the innkeeper, who helped us choose our room prior to arrival. She is very good at her job. The room (#2) was spacious and very clean with a sitting area and appropriate furniture and decor. The bathroom was new and nicely appointed but the soap and other toiletries offered should be up-sized and upgraded in quality. Views were spectacular from our windows - loved the quietness of the area - especially at night. Tip: set your alarm for sunrise -- one morning at 5:30, we happened to be awake and the sky was spectacular -- thus many photos were taken! The harbor and Inn are so quiet, my husband complained only about the clock ticking! We arrived on Sunday night, when the restaurant is closed and the chef is off, so we ate in the casual pub downstairs. That menu is quite limited - wings and burgers primarily, and it could use some tweaking. I ordered risotto balls, which were deep fried but overcooked (almost black on one side). The wings were just okay. The burger was very good, tho. We enjoyed the main dining room breakfasts very much. We had dinner there on the second night, and although tasty, portions are very tiny. Very little accompaniment with the entree. Salads tiny. The desserts were very disappointing - especially given the prices. The entrees were priced moderately, but again, the amount of food was lacking. Would suggest some re-thinking on this. Also, I would recommend adding fresh fish to the menu and perhaps hiring a pastry chef or outsourcing the desserts. Our waitress was at first brash but later apologetic for her demeanor. She was frustrated at having 5 tables to serve all by herself...and she let it show. She is excited for the restaurant's success and we also hope it continues. Overall this is a quality inn and we loved our stay there!

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor, front of the building gives you a terrific view of the boat traffic and ocean acce...

This was our third visit, but the first under new management. Innkeeper very easy to deal with by email and phone. Room was not luxurious, but in keeping with a Maine coastal inn. Very fair value for the money.

Highlights are
Terrific and scenic location right on a small working harbor also accommodating pleasure boats
Walk to Genera Store/P.O./fish market and restaurant
Peace and quiet
Very generous breakfast offerings included in meal rate. A real breakfast and lots of choices.

Room Tip: Some larger rooms looked to have TV sets if you need one.
