“Incredibly Underwhelming”
Reviewed 1 September 2013 via mobile

Overpriced and bland. Our waitress was unfriendly and inattentive, the coffee was definitely middle-of-the-road, and the food, though served quickly, was no-frills. My husband ordered a scallop & brie omelette, which consisted of eggs, scallops and cheese - period. This place counts on their quaint downtown location to make up for an entirely forgettable experience. Drive 10 minutes further to Rockland. You'll thank me.

“We waited a long time, the food was not good, & the service was terrible.”
Reviewed 13 August 2013 via mobile

We waited a long time. They were not particularly friendly. Finally we were seated at a table in a dark corner. There were flies, the food was overpriced & not good. They were out of many items & we ate at 12:30. We finally walked to the register as no one would bring us our bill. We were on vacation & very disappointed..

“Sunday brunch”
Reviewed 4 August 2013 via mobile

We had a recommendation for the thomaston cafe and we were passing by on Sunday so we stopped. Quaint and small but full of people who were genuinely glad to have us. Seafood cioppino was the choice. Enjoyed every bit of it down to the last spoonful of broth. A definite revisit is in order.

“the best breakfast you're aren't eating...”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

the thomaston cafe is still a hidden gem - discover it! this fantastic little spot is a local favorite with a mix of down-home, downeast foods and sophisticated, worldly flavor. the owners' credentials are more than impressive, and the food is delicious, well-portioned, and fairly priced. this is a quiet, low-key establishment, always displaying local art and never disrupting your meal with obnoxious music coming from the kitchen. my husband and i have eaten many a breakfast there, and highly recommend their mushroom hash, their freshly squeezed orange juice, and any dessert posted on the 'specials' board. i can't say enough good things about this restaurant; it's a great place to have a slow, relaxing meal. let the other tourists beat a path to the more 'popular' greasy spoons. take a stroll to this excellent restaurant and enjoy a delicious and thoughtfully-prepared meal. in your rush to get to rockland or camden or any place north on route 1 - don't pass this gem by!

“Go out of your way, but GO!”
Reviewed 27 July 2013

As seasonal residents of Mid-Coast Maine, we eat here often and it just keeps getting better and better. Think 5-star food in a small town cafe of mismatched chairs and small wildflower bouquets. Your waitress in the summer might be the school Spanish teacher during the school year, but she will bring you food to knock your socks off.

Whether you go for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you will have local food with a twist. Last time I had a cup of chilled cucumber soup with smoked salmon and Maine shrimp. Mmmmmmm. And their lamb is delicious, as are their steak. Seafood likely is just off the boat -- which is why lobster always tastes better in Maine. Haddock is a local delight.

Save room for dessert. You deserve it.
