This is such a great spot for families. We have stayed in three different cottages...a total of four times. We are planning to head back this season. We have stayed in the mid-200s...an easy walk to either pool. In May, only the pools by the front entrance are open because they are heated and it is wonderful! There are a couple of playgrounds and even a little game room. My family of five fit comfortably in the 2 bedroom. Most units have a pull out couch, so there is much more room than a traditional hotel room. Our first visit was when my daughter was a newborn and our other 2 children 2 and 4. The kitchen was clean everywhere we stayed and maintenance was immediately there when we needed to solve a problem. Security is pretty tight...parking is watched. But we like it because it keeps the riff-raff out. No towels are supposed to be hung outside and the grounds are kept very neat and well-maintained. We felt very safe here. It is mostly families and retired couples. There are activities planned throughout the summer months. On one visit, I travelled with 4 other adults and we were able to be comfortable in a 2-bedroom for a couple of nights. On another visit, I travelled with my husband and 3 children and we stayed in the 400s...close to the top. This was a bit of a hike to the lower pools, but not bad to get to the central pool and playground. We liked this unit because our children were able to ride there bikes safely around the circle because there is MUCH less traffic up at the top. The trolley passes by frequently, so you can easily hop on/off to get to the pools down below. The adult pool area is FANTASTIC is you need a few minutes away from the kids and splashing etc. The hot tub is covered with a roof so you can sit there on a sun blazing or rainy day. When the kids go to sleep at night, you can sit outside or inside...there are doors that close so you can talk in the sunroom.
The pictures of the cottages are available online and I HIGHLY recommend looking at them. You can pretty much tell from the furniture in the pictures if someone has spent time decorating it or has just put in hand-me-down furniture. Not for us...we scrutinize the photos. That being said, we've been happy in all 3 cottages we have stayed in. Very comfortable and clean... We always have booked with the front desk, though have called some private owners to see if we could get a better price (VRBO). Really...the price is pretty much the price until the last minute and the pain with dealing with the owner directly is that you need to sign leases and give a security deposit. If you call Summer Village directly, you don't have to be hassled by all of that. And a great little surprise was that repeat customers get a little bit of savings...5% I think? Hey, it's money. There is the main trolley you can meet at the entrance of the resort to take to the beach if you don't want to drive and pay parking. There are many different beaches to choose from so don't just think you have to go to the big beach in Wells or Ogunquit. Take the family to Federal Jacks in Kennebunkport for dinner and then walk around this cute town, visit Scoop Deck just up the street for ice cream....so much to do. We've been traveling to Maine for the past 15 years and have found the the best deal for our family with accommodations that suit our taste. We have stayed at MANY hotels in the area from The Cliff House, Meadowmere, Admiral's Inn, etc. This is definitely the best for our family.

Room Tip: Cottages in the 100s very close together, more spacious at the top. 200s-300s in the center and near middle non-heated pool and playground areas....most space and quieter at the top but further from pools etc.

It was a huge mistake to visit southern Maine on Labor Day weekend (we never learn) but we found a wonderful spot for families at Summer Village. Once we successfully navigated the intricacies of their web site and selected a cottage, we were very happy here. Our one bedroom cottage was spacious, very clean and well supplied with full sized appliances and everything needed for a great stay. The thoughtful kitchen equipment made eating in (away from the crowds) an easy and economical choice. We attended a "mixer" at the playground one night, pigged out while our son played, and didn't need to have any supper! The staff members we encountered during our stay were friendly and helpful, and the trolley, which runs every 20 minutes was a boon for little legs and tired older ones. This is a huge property, but very well laid out and maintained. Our son loved the pool and the Friday night movie.

I would advise vacationers to book early, pay close attention to the terms of rental/reservation as we found them somewhat nebulous, and prepare to have a great time. We'll be back!

Cottage 331 on seashell terrace at $1250 per week could have been nice but we were greeted with a mold and mildew covered shower curtain, an oversized chair and ottoman that were so dirty,LUCKILY WE BROUGHT EXTRA FITTED SHEETS and covered it for our stay, the oven hadn't been cleaned in months and set off the fire alarms when we attempted to use it, I was extremely happy that we brought our own bed pillows...
In all fairness we were met by a very nice young lady who does the cleaning allowed, and she immediately went and got is a new curtain. The owner apologized but all else remained the same for our stay. She offered a late check out or reduced rate for another stay, not happening! I would like to say that there are other rentals available thru summer village direct and from our observations are better controlled as it is a community. My suggestion is to rent directly thru them, not an individual as the community itself is meticulously maintained and the staff is friendly. Who knows, maybe this will inspire 331 to update and be sure her unit is clean as in most of the other reviews cleanliness is very important.

We had a great stay at our cottage. The village is great, the cottages are adorable, mostly 2 bedroom cottages with a few one bedrooms. Every cottage has a great porch and all the amenties you'd want. Having a washer/dryer while on a beach vacation was fantastic.

The grounds are lovely and very safe. They have 2 family pools, each with a kiddie pool and one adult pool with hot tub. Shuffle board, boccee, baseball fields and playrgrounds, there was plenty to do onsite.

The location was great, we loved Wells Beach and Ogunquit Beach. The trolley picked up right outside the village. As soon as we got back we immediately emailed the owners of the cotage we stayed in to see if we could stay there next year. I highly recomment this place.

We enjoyed our stay at Summer Village! The cottage was very clean and well appointed, with nice bedding and comfy couches, as well as everything you could need to cook in the kitchen. The playscapes and pools were great for the kids, but the water was a bit cold. Great proximity to Rt 1to visit other towns like Ogunquit and Kennebunkport. We are a family of 3 with a two year old, and we had another family of three stay with us half our time with their toddler. The two bedroom cottage was spacious enough for everyone. We fell in love with Maine and we plan to try to stay at Summer Village next year.
