My family had a house here growing up and I have always loved this beach. You need to get there by 9:00 in the morning to get a parking spot (bring plenty of quarters - .25 cents gets you 15 minutes). When the tide is out you can walk quite a ways on the hard sand beach. They have a bath house with changing room/bathrooms. There are plenty of places to grab a drink, and food or walk down to the center (about a mile).

This is my favorite beach to take my dog off season from October-Late April. Dogs are allowed off leash during this time. The beach is a expansive during low tide and there is plenty of space for dogs to roam and explore. Most of the beach is smooth and easy to walk on. There are beautiful views of the light house. I believe that dogs are allowed on leash in the early morning during summer months. There are bathrooms available and off season there are porta potties.

Beautiful beach and town. Very large and ample parking. If it is cool at all, bring a sweater. Nice beach to walk then head to town for lunch or dinner.

Pros: True to its name, this is a long beach which means there's lots of room for everyone to spread out. The slope to the water was gradual and there were very few rocks. It was very easy to wheel our wagon across the sand. We arrived around 8am on a Tuesday morning and parked only four spots down from the bathhouse. If you want to park anywhere near the bathroom you need to arrive by 8:30am It's Maine so the water was cold!

Cons: The parking is parallel parking on the street (no public lot) so if you can't parallel park you should arrive very early. There are private lots randomly across the street. The bathrooms are old and were kind of dirty when we were there. The mens room has one stall and two urinals, the womens room had 4 or 5 stalls.

Other: Metered parking is $1.00/hour (bring quarters). There are several take-out restaurants across the street from the beach that we did not visit. Beach access is by ramp near the bath rooms or stairs at other points along the street.
