“Great view, but rooms need work”
Reviewed 5 October 2010

My husband and I stayed here for an extended weekend getaway. We are frequent travelers to Maine but this is the first time we have ever been to the York area and it was absolutely beautiful. In regards to the Grand View Inn, the view is amazing and I think they feel they can charge the amount they do just because of that. However, they really need to do some work on the rooms if they want to compete with some of the other properties that have equally beautiful views. I'm not one of those people that's looking for wi-fi or a gazillion different cable stations or a gym on-site, but there are some basic things that I feel should be a priority in a hotel/motel/inn. Our room was definitely clean, I have no complaints there. There just need to be some things done to freshen them up so that they don't look so shabby. A few extra little amenities, like a box of tissues in each room and an electrical outlet in the bathroom for a hairdryer would also be nice touches. I love that every room has it's own balcony, but to really take advantage of the Maine coast you need to be able to experience the ocean breezes while you sleep. This is where a sliding screen door would be fabulous. Another thing that was kind of annoying was that there were no light switches right inside of the door. You had to go over to the bed or next to the desk to turn a light on in the room. If you are coming into your room for the first time in the dark this can be slightly challenging. The staff was perfectly nice, though slightly disorganized with bookkeeping. The website states that a one night deposit is required at the time of booking but we were charged two. We didn't make a big deal out of it, we just figured that was one less night we had to pay for when we checked in. However, when we checked in we were charged for one night more than what we had booked. Since we didn't receive an email or mail confirmation we had no idea that we were put down for another night. We were refunded the money without a problem, but the whole thing could have been avoided if they were a little more organized and had some sort of confirmation system where you could have documentation of your reservation. The indoor heated pool is very nice and very clean. We took advantage of that a couple of nights and really enjoyed it. We did notice that the staff tends to smoke in the lobby. Of course no one really spends a ton of time in the lobby but even if you just went in for a few moments to ask a question you came out smelling like smoke. Sorry smokers, I know you feel like we're out to get you, but it is very offensive to a lot of people and some of us are actually allergic. In this day and age it's just good business sense to keep the smoking outside. All in all we had a pleasant stay, but to be honest I will probably check out some of the other oceanfront properties the next time we plan on visiting York.

Called to inquire and was given a description that was to say the least exagerated. Rooms are old, out dated and stuffy. AC did not work - cool breeze at night provided more cool air than ac. Amenities are described with creative liberty - refrigerator is tiny, coffee maker didn't work. "Family Unit" consisted of 2 queen beds, one 40 in round table with 2 chairs. I found stains and hair on the sheets - fortunately we had our own. Not a good value and extremely uncomfortable. Owner/operator was not at all concerned with the feeling that we were taken advantage of - actually said a room is a room - you pay for the view - I suggest you pay for the view elsewhere; don't waste your money here

Though the Grandview motel has seen better days, we always enjoy our stay. We enjoy visiting with the owners (and their dogs) and wish they could put some money into restoring this great place. The ocean is directly across the street and you can clearly see Nubble Light (when weather permits!) On very clear days you can see Boon Island and if you have a zoom lens on your camera, can even take a picture of it.

My stay at the Grand View Inn was amazing! The rooms were great and the beach was a short walk away. The view is amazing, plus for rainy days they have an indoor pool!

The view was spectacular from the balcony. Unubstructed view of whole beach and Nubble Light. That would be the only reason I would stay there again. The bathroom was not very clean, alot of mold, especially the shower curtain. The bed did not have appropriate sheets. Only a flat sheet covered the mattress and woke up in the morning on the bare mattress, ugh. No toiletries except two tiny bars of soap, not even tissues. Never could connect to the free wireless internet. Also, the door was not very secure, you can see light through the bottom and sides. The rooms really need some remodeling to keep guests coming back.

We stayed at the Grandview Motor Inn at Long Sands. It was pretty modest but had a great view across from the ocean. It was a bit of a walk to the good sandy beach. Right across the street is mostly rocks. All in all we thought York Beach was a great place to visit. Very relaxing, easy and nice folks too.
