My husband and I recently stayed at the York Harbor Inn. We checked-in but the room was not ready yet, so we went out to do some shopping. When we returned we got our keys and headed to the Chapman Cottage where our room was. When we went to open the door, we found another couple in the room that had been given to us. We promptly returned to the front desk to correct this. The other couple was happy to move thankfully. Jason, at the front desk was more concerned with who had made the mistake of giving us both the room then actually solving the problem. Once we sorted out that the other couple was going to another room and we would have our original room, we asked if housekeeping could change the sheets. We were told that housekeeping had gone home for the night, and Jason handed us linens in a trash bag and told us that we could change the bed ourselves. We also were also only offered 2 free drinks for all the confusion.

Overall, we were very disappointed with the customer service at the front desk and thought that this problem could have been solved in a much better way. We have stayed here many times before, as well as many members of our family, but I am not planning to return anytime soon.

Thank you so much for your recent visit to the York Harbor Inn and for taking the time to inform us of the circumstances that occurred upon your arrival.
We hope that you accept our apologies for what was clearly an error on our part.
As you may know from previous visits to the Inn, our Front Desk and all of our staff make every effort to exceed the expectations of our guests from the time of reservation, to your arrival and during the course of your stay.
As to this specific event, we agree with you that this situation could have been solved in a different fashion and we have taken steps to correct this with the individual involved as well as utilize this experience a training tool for all of our staff.
We value your loyalty to the York Harbor Inn and we sincerely hope you will visit with us again in the future.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a lovely 2 night stay at the York Harbor and couldn't have been more pleased! Everyone we came in contact with from the staff was more than welcoming and made our experience wonderful. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Inn's restaurant I had we shared the Baked Artichoke Dip; I then enjoyed the Seared Scallops, while my boyfriend had the Lemon Herb Brick Roasted Chicken. The rooms were the perfect size and the atmosphere was a perfect escape from reality. I would suggest the York Harbor Inn to anyone who is looking for a trip away on the beautiful cost of Maine!

Staff is friendly and professional. Our room, 36, did not have a direct view on the water - other than from the window in the bathroom. But for the price we paid, we can not really complain about this. It is an old place so it has its charm and quirks, but overall we found the common areas to be very well maintained and the room clean. We loved the location - across from the water so you can easily walk to the harbor. There are also sidewalks if you want to walk further away. We ate at the restaurant of the hotel for dinner. We thought the early bird special was an excellent deal - you have to be seated by 6pm. Service very professional and the 3 course menu offers something for every taste. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a special place for a romantic getaway.

The York Harbor Inn is a winner. Especially in the winter when rates are reasonable. The Inn is charming and comfortable with a fantastic location on York Harbor. I recently spent a winter weekend at the Inn and found very little to complain about.

First, the things they do right. Great folks on the phone and at the desk, especially Jason who worked out all the problems of my reservation going above and beyond what would normally be called excellent service. The continental breakfast was delicious, and the staff that helped with its service was very gracious. The main building is just what you would hope for in an old New England Inn. Rambling hallways. A variety of guest rooms. A fire in the fireplace. A bank of windows overlooking the rough, cold waters of the North Atlantic. Wide plank floors. Comfortable lobby seating. A perfect spot to enjoy a drink, a book or just the view.

Now, for the few problems I encountered. Cell phone coverage is spotty at best -- not the fault of YHI, but when wi-fi is also spotty... That’s a real problem. Parking was challenging. On a Thursday evening when the pub and restaurant were fairly busy, there were NO parking places available in the lot and the street parking was completely filled. I had to “invent” a space for my tiny rental car. The water flow in my shower could best be described as "meager" and the water temp was difficult to "tune". (Perhaps that's because in the winter York's cold water is freezing cold.) The bath towels weren't as large nor as soft as I'm used to. Really no serious complaints at all.

One afternoon I decided to check out some other buildings which are part of YHI. I would recommend an exploratory jaunt to everyone. First I passed a busy hot tub. Then I discovered that there are inviting sitting areas available in several of the buildings. Finally I got to the Chapman Cottage. It is quite a walk --maybe a half mile --but worth the trek.

I will definitely recommend this spot to all my friends.

Room Tip: Ask for that ocean view. If none is available, probably the Chapman Cottage would be a good second...

We just returned from another great stay at the York Harbor Inn. From the ease of making reservations with Cheyenne and Liam, to having our car shoveled out by Innkeeper Richard, we were charmed by our experience. The two evenings of snowfall added to the ambiance; we were in the Harbor Hill House, shoveled steps away from a roaring fire, complimentary appetizers, and a delicious dinner. Our room overlooked the ocean, as do all the rooms in Harbor Hill. Cheyenne booked us in the best room in the Inn. I hesitate to say which one, fearing it won't always be ready for us (Room 407) :) Our stay was made possible by Travelzoo and included drink and food vouchers, so our first dinner was $.66! The common area is a lovely, warm living room and a complimentary continental breakfast. Can't wait to go back!

My girlfriend and I were looking to get away on a weekend trip. We went in the off season so the rates were very reasonable.
We stayed in the mid-level rooms: clean, jacuzzi, newly remodeled bathrooms, gas fireplace. We especially enjoyed using the outdoor hot tub in the evenings.
Some cons: there was trouble connecting to the inn's wifi and the pillows on the bed were wretched.

The staff was especially helpful, particularly Jason, the night watchman. We recommend this inn…bring your bathing suits!

My wife and I have stayed at YHI many times over the years and have not been especially disappointed. Until now. We have just returned from a stay in a “luxury room” in the Harbor Cliffs Inn, steps from the Main Building. You would think that a luxury room would have an ocean view. Not so. You would think that “elegant
luxury rooms” would have been updated sometime in the last two decades. Not necessarily so. The only thing that could conceivably be considered remotely luxury was it had a fireplace (fake wax-logs) or a Jacuzzi (ours had to be about 20 years old with a shower inside the tub). The tiny sink was made out of plywood and had barely enough room for a couple of plastic cups (but they were individually wrapped) and a couple of tooth brushes. No close closet for coats or jackets. Lights (the long-lasting type) that took hours to heat up. Despite the 3 lamps the room was always dark, even on a sunny day with the curtains drawn back. The mattress was quite softy, bed was very uncomfortable. The shared sitting room was freezing. It was snowing. A lot. Unfortunately we could not park in the garage because the owner’s car was parked in one of the 4 spaces, and he was in Florida, taking the key with him. The steps to the Main Building were long and treacherous. Either the long way down and back up the steep driveway, or through a little door through and around the back to another slippery driveway. I must say that the grounds and maintenance staff did a terrific job of trying to keep up with things. The even shoveled our car out and brush the snow off and squeeze it into the scant space left next to the owner’s car. (I thought the customer was supposed to come first.) The free continental breakfast was one of the most limited and meager I have had anywhere, including many motels. The Ship’s Pub was the only place available for meals. Nice menu, good drinks, well-prepared, tasty food. Hot and cold near the fireplace, chilly elsewhere. The one saving grace was the friendly, accommodating and helpful staff, every single one of them--servers, bussers, bar tenders, housekeeping, front desk, grounds and maintenance.

Room Tip: Reserve rooms on second floor. Ask lots of questions about the room(s)--how recently was it update...

Thank you for your most recent visit to the York Harbor Inn and for sharing your experience with us. We are truly sorry you did not enjoy your stay as you have many times in the past.

Although many of our Guest Rooms do offer multiple amenities such as water views, King Bed and Jacuzzi Spa Tubs, not all Luxury rooms offer the same amenities. There are some that have no ocean view, a partial ocean view, and a varying degree of additional amenities. We do take great pride in our lodging options and make every effort at the time of reservation to describe these individual guest rooms so that all of our guests are comfortable with their lodging experience. We are very sorry if we failed in making the details of your room clear.

We are happy to say that we have recently completed a program replacing all of our mattresses with extra deep, pillow top, high quality mattresses manufactured by the Serta Company which is utilized by many of the finest Inns and Hotels in the country. Additionally, all of our energy efficient lighting in each room is being replaced with the latest energy efficient and environmentally friendly bulb- the LED bulb. This process will be completed by this coming summer season.

This winter has been particularly challenging with high occupancy and a considerable amount of snowfall, which has limited our parking spaces for our guests. We truly apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. We are so happy to hear that our staff was able to assist in the snow removal in a timely fashion.

We are very happy that you enjoyed your dining experience! We offer three separate restaurants for the pleasure of our guests, and our chef of over 30 years works very hard to provide a memorable dining experience. During the winter months, our Main Dining Room and our Tavern at the Chapman Cottage are open Thursday through Sunday. We are happy to have a full and varied menu seven days per week in our Ship’s Cellar Pub.

We also appreciate your very kind words with regard to our staff and the hospitality you received throughout your visit.
