We stayed at Harbor Crest because we were travelling with our two dogs and it was a great choice. The Inn building is well kept - some of the common areas were showing a little wear and tear but it was nicely maintained. The room itself (502 which you can see in all of the Inn's promotional photos) did not disappoint although it too was a little rough around the edges - especially the bathroom which could use a new coat of paint although their big Jacuzzi tub made up for it. It was very clean and the "breakfast lady" and the young woman who cleaned our room were lovely. Wish I could have said the same for the innkeeper - only saw him once as he popped out of his quarters to get ice in the kitchen. He was disheveled and barefoot and I would have expected more of a presence since the power had gone out (the result of an auto accident on a nearby street). He didn't volunteer any help or further information - a bit disappointing for someone who is supposed to be managing the inn.
We stayed 3 nights over a very busy (and wet) holiday weekend. Harbor Crest was not full but the guests I met were very nice and I loved how dog friendly the area is - York Harbor Beach is just across the street from the main inn (about 1/2 mile from Harbor Crest) and they allowed dogs off leash until 8AM and there is a dog park about 9 miles up the road in Ogunquit (off Berwick Rd) which is large, well maintained and spacious.
As for Harbor Crest - there is a continental breakfast in the mornings - bagels, fruit, muffins and danishes as well as coffee and juices. It was a pleasure to come help ourselves and a Keurig was available all day as well as fresh bottled and lemon water - also had a supply of dog cookies and baggies by the door - these details were very thoughtful and really made a difference. I didn't realize Chapman was just right next door with their own restaurant - will have to try that next time... Did (unfortunately) eat in the main dining room - will do a separate review but it was mediocre (at best).
All in all, I think the Inn staff is spotty – some were extremely pleasant and helpful (aforementioned breakfast lady and housekeeper) as well as the two young women at the front desk when I checked out and the gentlemen attending the Inn’s driveway the evening of July 4th – and some were not as professional – the two young men at check in (pleasant but a little preoccupied), the Inn keeper for Harbor Crest and the gentleman who waited on us at the restaurant – someone should mentioned that he should button his shirt… The property is beautiful and a nice setting for a much needed, relaxing getaway – I would recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed in 502 in Harbor Crest - it is on the second floor and overlooks the front of the inn. No...

There are several buildings comprising this inn. I have only experienced Harbor Hill, Yorkshire and the Country Inn (main building). Rooms in the main building are the least expensive but still quite charming. Always keep in mind that this is a very old building and it shows - it's a kick to use the stairs and railings built for people who were, on average, much shorter in days of yore! The restaurant and pub are in this building so if quiet is required, ask for a room away from the road. For a historical but more luxurious stay, try the Harbor Hill (a weather-cancelled flight caused me to miss a birthday with my elder father - the wonderful staff took pity on me and upgraded me to the best room available in this building - ocean view king, gas stove, jetted tub and as big as a small cabin!). Great for special occasions. The Yorkshire falls in between. Ask about accessability as I haven't noticed any elevators. Ocean views are just mildly obstructed by power lines and trees in season.

All three lodgings are across one street and a small park (three minute walk) from a beautiful, protected sandy beach, surrounded by rocky points and cliffs. North from the beach is a cliff walk offering all of the picturesque views expected of the Maine coast. It can be a bit tricky if wet. A longer and more groomed beach/cliff walk is in Perkins Cove, just a few miles north - the Marginal Way Walkway. Stop at the Nubble lighthouse on the way - it will be one of the best photos of your vacation!

The included breakfast is beyond continental with house made pastries using locally sourced ingredients when available - Maine blueberries! Great coffee 24/7. Management chooses the breakfast staff wisely - all are very knowledgeable about the area and love to share.

The restaurant is very nice with several early bird options (as of my last stay). Was $18.95 with soup or salads, bread/roasted garlic, entree and dessert included. More than generous amount of food and always a delicious vegetarian choice. Try the Indian pudding (name has been changed (?) but is a corn/molasses pudding) - save room!.

The pub is in the old stables downstairs and now has a nautical feel. Roaring fireplace, great food (can make a meal of the creamed spinach!), and better than expected entertainment make it hard to leave! Can get VERY crowded even off-season as it is a favorite of the locals.

Having a car is a must as York is about an hour from the Jetport and there is not much within moderate walking distance. MANY historical sites and attractions just a short drive away. Parking is not an issue as only guests can use the interior lots.

There are many more "extras" - too many to mention. Would be happy to answer questions.

NOTE: I have never visited York Harbor in the summer. I hear the town swells from approx. 13,000 to 60,000 from May to September. This Inn is a perfect "home base" of operations for your vacation and explorations but probably not a destination/resort type of stay (other than a romantic weekend) so if you go out and about sightseeing, it will be crowded in the summer, and, after the "season", many historic/amusement type attractions are closed for the winter.

We're staying in the Harbor Crest Inn, We've been coming for the last five years at least four times a year. Since they opened the pub at the Chapman property it is almost impossible to find parking between 5 and 9 pm. They used to have assigned parking for each room, not anymore. Between the inn keepers, their visitors, staff, and pub patrons, those staying in this building can't always find a place to park. No matter how delightful everything else is, not being able to park is just not acceptable.

Room Tip: There all good.

We planned a very special event at the York Harbor Inn and we could not have chosen a better venue. The Inn has all the ambiance and charm in a quaint New England setting. The Ship's Cellars Pub is a must while staying at the Inn. The weekend entertainment is very good and does not attract your "typical" bar crowd. The "1637" Restaurant has exceptional views and very good seafood. Furthermore, the entire staff went above and beyond to accommodate all of our requests. I personally worked with the Inn to coordinate a surprise 50th Wedding Anniversary Vow Renewal for my in-laws and they truly exceeded all of my expectations. Cheyenne, the events coordinator is professional, personable, and aims to please! I highly recommend the York Harbor Inn for any special occasion or weekend getaway. I assure you, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Room Tip: Spend the extra money and upgrade your room from a standard to a deluxe. It will be much more spacio...

We were wrapping up a fantastic two week vacation celebrating my 65th birthday at York Harbor Inn. We did a loop trip heading from Boston to the Berkshires, West through the Adirondacks , East to Vermont and ending in Maine. It wasn't by accident we ended up in York Harbor as mysteriously my wife found a great Jack Russell breeder there as well!! York Harbor Inn has a beautiful building that is pet friendly called Harbor Crest. The accommodations we perfect and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The dinners at the Inn were exceptional, and the Pub is a must see. You'd swear your in the hold of a 1700's schooner heading out to sea.

I am an event planner and have been hosting an annual event at York Harbor Inn for several years. My group returned today and have already begun to plan the event for 2015!!!!
Of all the hotels that I deal with from coast to coast, York Harbor Inn is by far the MOST accommodating. There is nothing that I have ever requested regarding menu, theme or special requests that is too much for Bridget or Greg or Chef to handle. I am looking forward to working together for years to come. If anyone is thinking of having a destination wedding, reunion, or gathering this is the place for you.

This was a very special trip to the York Harbor Inn because we were married there 25 years ago and we just went back for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We asked for and stayed in the building adjacent to the inn itself, in a spacious room looking over the ocean. The room had a fireplace, a very comfortable bed and the bathtub could be used as a jacuzzi. It was very clean and pleasant. The inn is a nice combination of hotel and bed and breakfast so we had the feeling of staying in a house while getting the services of a hotel. There is a very convenient kitchen with a coffee and tea machine and utensils, including wine glasses. Fresh fruit was available every day and the house had a marvelous view of the ocean, The inn is on the side of a busy road so it is better to ask for an ocean front view on the second floor. There is a need for some updates, like the stair runner in the house that has seen better days, the AC unit in the window of our room blocking the view of the ocean, or the cheap lamps in our room. Also be aware that like in cruise ships, there is an envelope for a tip for the cleaning staff, which adds to the price you pay for the room. But these were minor details. That said we were somewhat disappointed that the management did nothing to celebrate our anniversary even though I had mentioned it to them when i reserved the room, We actually got married in the inn itself and had our reception there 25 years ago! I mentioned it to the staff and the waiters but we only got a "congratulations" and a "whatever" look on their faces. It would have been nice to have received a piece of chocolate, or a free dessert or any token of appreciation or celebration, which would have shown good customer service. York harbor is a lovely quiet town, perfect for a low key and peaceful weekend.

Room Tip: Get an ocean front room and /or a room on the second floor so you do not see or hear the road traffi...
