We stayed at Harbor Crest because we were travelling with our two dogs and it was a great choice. The Inn building is well kept - some of the common areas were showing a little wear and tear but it was nicely maintained. The room itself (502 which you can see in all of the Inn's promotional photos) did not disappoint although it too was a little rough around the edges - especially the bathroom which could use a new coat of paint although their big Jacuzzi tub made up for it. It was very clean and the "breakfast lady" and the young woman who cleaned our room were lovely. Wish I could have said the same for the innkeeper - only saw him once as he popped out of his quarters to get ice in the kitchen. He was disheveled and barefoot and I would have expected more of a presence since the power had gone out (the result of an auto accident on a nearby street). He didn't volunteer any help or further information - a bit disappointing for someone who is supposed to be managing the inn.
We stayed 3 nights over a very busy (and wet) holiday weekend. Harbor Crest was not full but the guests I met were very nice and I loved how dog friendly the area is - York Harbor Beach is just across the street from the main inn (about 1/2 mile from Harbor Crest) and they allowed dogs off leash until 8AM and there is a dog park about 9 miles up the road in Ogunquit (off Berwick Rd) which is large, well maintained and spacious.
As for Harbor Crest - there is a continental breakfast in the mornings - bagels, fruit, muffins and danishes as well as coffee and juices. It was a pleasure to come help ourselves and a Keurig was available all day as well as fresh bottled and lemon water - also had a supply of dog cookies and baggies by the door - these details were very thoughtful and really made a difference. I didn't realize Chapman was just right next door with their own restaurant - will have to try that next time... Did (unfortunately) eat in the main dining room - will do a separate review but it was mediocre (at best).
All in all, I think the Inn staff is spotty – some were extremely pleasant and helpful (aforementioned breakfast lady and housekeeper) as well as the two young women at the front desk when I checked out and the gentlemen attending the Inn’s driveway the evening of July 4th – and some were not as professional – the two young men at check in (pleasant but a little preoccupied), the Inn keeper for Harbor Crest and the gentleman who waited on us at the restaurant – someone should mentioned that he should button his shirt… The property is beautiful and a nice setting for a much needed, relaxing getaway – I would recommend.
