Really wanted to like this place but:
Copper tabletop had off-putting, strong metallic smell.
Menus were filthy, covered with crumbs and sticky to the touch.
Silverware looked dirty but could have been water spots.
Server was way too casual and unprofessional.
On the plus side, decor was nice and music was good.
Regarding the food: Crab bisque wasn’t hot enough but had nice lumps of crabmeat. Lamb was cooked correctly and well seasoned. Complimentary sautéed vegetables tasted okay but were all different cuts, slivers and peelings as if they were left over from other preps.
For the price, there were too many improvements needed to make me want to go back.

My husband and I were running errands in Bel Air and decided to stop by Alchemy Elements for a spontaneous lunch date. Have never been there before but loved the decour and overall mood. We were definitely not dressed for a sophisticated lunch but were made to feel very welcome by our waiter Guy. Super friendly and personable. We shared a bowl of crab bisque which was creamy with a buttery taste of sherry and lump crabmeat. We also shared the Montecristo plate with a small arugula salad which also was very good. We definitely plan to come here again with other friends.

My husband and I have frequented Alchemy many times. The food is always excellent however, they need to change up their side veggies, always the same. Josh the bartender is fantastic! That man knows how to make a drink. Doesn't matter if it's an oldie but goodie or something new that recently came out. The prices are reasonable and it's a friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to our next visit.

Alchemy Elements occupies one of those shopping mall slots in a sea of aging malls along the Baltimore Pike that often change hands or, lately, lie empty. It sits amidst nail shops and other forgettables, tucked away and invisible to passing traffic, But there are good food things going on within, and the locals seem to know it - the place was packed the night we ate there.

The couple who run it, Michael and Debi Matassa, have the culinary training and wine knowledge to satisfy discriminating tastes. We did appetizers and salads - delicious mussels and an octopus dish, and a pear salad with pecans and Applewood bacon. The modest portions of food are presented artfully - each little dab of mustard discreet - and fully satisfied our appetites.

The wines are extensive and in some cases expensive, a wide selection though some had run out the night we were there. I also tried a bourbon cask-ripened beer that pleased a non-beer-drinker. (The server seemed to know his beers better than he did his wines.)

The room is open and set fairly close, and there was a lively and loud crowd the night we attended - St. Patrick's Day, actually - but the noise didn't get in the way of conversation - good acoustics.

So there it hides, in the hulking, highway-lining mall world, amidst the bland repetitive offerings of chain food and failing retail stores: a fine restaurant for people who want to savor flavors and enjoy an evening among others who appreciate good food and drink. There are a progressive happy hour and opportunities to buy wine at retail prices on certain nights.
