We held our Company dinner here and had a side room for about 30 people. We had agreed a limited menu and pre-ordered everyone's choice, and negotiated the wine price. Even so, at over $80 per head I felt the food and service left something to be desired. Initially the tables were set up as six tables for 5, but they quickly switched that to 5 tables of six to accommodate the fact that we were mostly attending in couples. Service to the table was random, rather than serve one table at a time, food was dumped in front of the first person they saw who had ordered the dish. Result was that some people sat staring at their food for 5 minutes while their partners were served. Having said that, the food, when it came, was good.

We were looking for a decent seafood meal recently but left Mc and Schmick feeling disappointed and disagreeable. This was our fourth or fifth visit over the past several years and each one has been worse than the last. The menu looks attractive and exciting but the food is less tasty and lower quality than one can reasonably expect. "Lump" crab cakes lacked large pieces of crab meat, and a trout dish was overcooked and over spiced with no trout flavor. Wines are limited, overpriced (3 times retail) and there is no option to bring a bottle and pay a corkage fee. In addition, this time we had a waiter who must have been trained at the Basil Fawlty school of restaurant servers--belligerent and incorrect, and finally fawning in apology. Entrees are $19-29, appetizers $9-14.

My wife and I chose this restaurant because we liked the fact that it had plenty of different fish dishes. The restaurant decor is nice but not very fancy (people in shorts, kids were there when we went at night).

My feeling is that this restaurant wants to make itself a "fancier" option to a place like Legal Sea Foods -- and sets its prices accordingly -- but the food and service are just not up to snuff. Between my wife and I we ordered two salads, two fish dishes, and three side dishes and were disappointed with everything except for one of the side dishes. The food is not bad, it's just that I've eaten at lots of other places (Legal's being one of them) with better tasting fish at lower prices.

The service was also underwhelming.

Overall, given the price and the experience that someone choosing this restaurant might be looking for, I would not recommend this place.

We visited this restaurant as a group of six (three couples) as part of a quick weekend trip to D.C. to celebrate a family occassion. The previous night, we had dined at a Brazilian Churrascaria in the area and we're looking for anything, but meat! This was the perfect seafood spot.

First, the restaurant setting: very inviting, friendly staff, very cozy environment. We were seated in the middle dining hall, at a round table - although booths are available for smaller groups. We were served immediately by staff members - who were quite informative and knowledgeable of the menu selections and other restaurant offerings. We were definitely tended to in an at-ease manner.

Second, the food: spectacular. We tend to dine out on a regular basis, with friends and family, and have acquired a keen sense for quality restaurant offerings - and this restaurant was a great choice on behalf of one of our family members. We started the meal off with some appetizers - including calamari and a selection from the raw oyster bar - all great choices. As for the meals, we enjoyed a plethora of menu items, including:

-Maryland Crab Cakes (fresh and delicious)
-Atlantic Salmon (Stuffed with blue crab, bay shrimp and brie cheese - so so good, the perfect combination of flavors)
-Seafood Fettucini (the perfect mix of alfredo sauce and seafood flavor)
-Mixed Seafood Grill (trio of swordfish, salmon, and crab cake)
-Filet Mignon and Lobster special (great price special that included a house salad and dessert)

All meal selections are plentiful and the sides are interchangeable and at your choice. All of our meals were served promptly and at the right temperature. It was a perfect dinner - and satisfied an eager seafood craving.

Also worth mentioning- the most delicious sourdough bread is served at the table (with butter) prior to the meal. Very easy to eat it all, but no worries, they bring more if you ask. And desserts are delicious - look for the creme brulee, chocolate molton cake, and the warm brownie sundae served in a huge glass!

Great restaurant - highly recommended. Enjoy a walk alongside the Bethesda outdoor shoppes after your meal. Only a one-block walk outside the restaurant (and it'll certainly help you digest the meal!)

First, I want to clarify that the "cheap eats" is only referring to their bar during happy hour when there are deliciously inexpensive deals for real food. The regular dining area is not cheap by any means. Great date spot or for a special family dinner. The menu is fresh daily and denotes where the main ingredient came from (eg, cod from Nova Scotia). Some dishes are creative, others are classic. Even the chicken and pasta dishes are good. Excellent happy hour deals in the bar. Often, Alaska Airlines has coupons around the holidays for $$ off your bill at M&S. Makes it a good deal. In the building next to the Bethesda Metro Station so great location for a happy hour that includes friends Metro-ing from downtown or the 'burbs.
