Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa
Reviewed 17 July 2014

The hotel was nice with sufficient amenities and our room was clean. I guess that it is geared specifically to boating and gambling. I was disappointed since when we made the reservation my husband asked if there was a beach nearby. He was told the beach was just outside the hotel which made me feel a lot better about our pending stay. Perhaps the expectation of this needs to be reviewed with those answering the phone. There is no beach. They do have some sand in an area that appears to be used for weddings. There are no beach chairs and they are currently under some construction which leaves the outdoor area less than desirable. I guess I am not surprised that this was not mentioned as it is always easier to apologize than to lose potential business.

The staff was fine. Not rude but not overly friendly either. When we asked the front desk where a beach was, their answer was vague and it seemed like no one ever visited any of the beaches. They also told us that Brownie Beach was free. This was not the case. In fact they wanted $16 per person on a Wednesday. When you don't have a concierge your front desk staff should really have better information for guests.

The casino (slots only) was very cramped and crowded. We left after quickly losing some money and never returned.

We tried the Boardwalk Café and Smokey Joe's. Food was fine however service was slow especially considering that we were only one of a handful of table at both places. Why would the bartender be responsible for Keno too at Smokey Joe's? It made the service suffer.

Overall our stay was fine but not what I expected from a "Resort and Spa"

A very nice place and very pretty but there was construction work with bulldozers between the hotel and bandstand. They were firing up the bulldozers in the morning and I would have been very angry if my roof faced in that direction. Those people paid to see the bay, not bulldozers and all of the noise. Schedule that stuff in the off season. ... Our room was a "king balcony" but 98% of what we saw from the balcony was a wall of trees and not the beach, what little of a beach there is. The sliding glass door locks as you close it on your way out, locking me outside. Thank goodness my wife was inside the room. There are two chairs and a table on the balcony. I think the table would have fallen over if you set a pack of crackers on it, it was that rickety. The carpet was filthy. If you walked across the floor in your bare feet and then took a shower, you would leave nasty black foot prints on the shower floor. The staff and extremely nice and helpful but they did not give us another room. It's a nice area but prices are a bit high and there isn't much to do. You have to pay to swim at the North Beach area which I disagree with completely. $18 for the two of us to lounge on the beach and walk the pier. Parking is free.

Room Tip: Call ahead before booking and make sure you are getting what you paid for. We wanted a balcony to s...

This hotel is so pretty as soon as you pull up, free valet parking with is nice. inside is so clean, friendly staff, rooms were clean with a nice balacony, right near two restraunts and walking distance to water park, would stay there again for sure.
Only thing is there was no microwave in the room, had to go to the lobby to microwave food.

Room Tip: we had a limited balcony room, could see a little bit of the water.

Very good area for water sports, fishing, boating and the best fire works on the 4th of July that I have ever seen. Would go back again next year, was there last year and fire works were just as good. Love the view from the room

It was perfect! We are only 90 minutes away and we will be back often--all year round. Great accomodations, teriffic restaurants and breathtaking view of the bay. North Beach was fantastic and the beach near the hotel was out of the way and quiet. Dog friendly beach.

Room Tip: Get a room with bay view and balcony.

I enjoyed my stay. Service was great. Staff was helpful and kind , they took care of all needs. The balcony view was excellent. Our family party enjoyed the show, beach was clean, sand was cooling to the touch. We dance the evening away. The band played all type of music for young or old. Very great

Room Tip: corner suites are large and sunny

The "beach" was covered with construction equipment and a huge barge blocked the view of the Bay. This is not exactly a beach resort. Most people seemed to be there for the gambling. But the hotel is OK.
