For starters, we had lobster bisque: too salty, ground lobster, not much flavor. Moules, sandy, soft shells crumbled into Provençal sauce. Oysters on the half shell: rave review, excellent. Mains: Fried oysters, just OK, not great as they should be! Grilled Salmon, good, nothing special. Filet tips with mashed were appreciated. Salads, fine. Desserts: key lime pie, pretty tame, not limey enough for me. Chocolate mousse, he loved it.
In the end we expected better food for the prices charged.
On the positive side: Good service. Lovely setting. Perfect weather to eat on the outdoor patio.

Dinned at Bayard House for lunch in August. If you enjoy sitting on the water and watching boats in a laid back atmosphere this is place for you. Drinks and food are reasonably priced. Crabs cakes and maryland crab soup are excellent. The only con was service was just average. Server was kind but very slow and unknowledgable. Managment needs to improve training to make this a 5 star experience.

On a weekend getaway, we were alerted to Bayard house by our hotel manager. He said we would get good crab cakes (what else would one want in Maryland?) and a nice view of boats coming in for the day. On Saturday night I ordered the crab cakes - excellent - and my husband ordered the seafood fettucini. We were both very pleased with our meals. We enjoyed the visit so much that we returned on Sunday evening. This time my husband ordered the crabcakes, which he enjoyed as much as I did, and I ordered the potato/steak/and beer soup - different and delicious - and pear salad. The pear salad was good but not spectacular. We both ordered dessert - heavenly chocolate cake for one of us, a sinful wedge of pie made of, I think, pecans, chocolate, and other yummy stuff, served warm with ice cream. Terrific! Wait staff is friendly, courteous, and efficient. Particularly appreciated Jennifer on Saturday and Melia on Sunday. We sat outdoors both evenings but went through the cozy indoor dining room and thought it would be quite nice on a colder day. Highly recommend.

We came by boat from the Elk River and tied up at the city docks around 2:30. We sat outside, but were not quite ready to have a meal yet. We ordered iced tea and told our server, "we're just going to rest here a while, enjoy the canal scenery, then have lunch." Our server was very friendly and accommodating. She said relax as long as you wish. Soon after, she served us a cracker, bread and cream cheese plate in the meantime. That was an unexpected and flavorful appetizer. Then came time to eat. We both ordered the crab cake entree, with grilled vegetables and grilled diced potatoes. The crab cake was excellent, a no filler, broiled, topped with a lemon butter and more importantly was made with Chesapeake Bay crab meat. The grilled potatoes were very good as well. Will be back again.

Nice setting overlooking the C&D canal. Food is nicely prepared and the ambiance is good. Good for crab cake sandwiches and salads at lunch. Have not been there for dinner, but would expect a good meal.
