“Lovely!”

We immediately felt like we stepped back in time at this lovely renovated B&B...the suite was amazing, roomy and comfortable. Everyone was so friendly and made us feel like family. Mornings offered fresh coffee and a continental breakfast, then you are invited to a "tea" in the afternoons with little desserts. White Swan is in the center of town and in walking distance of everything. Highly recommend!!

Room Tip: You won't go wrong in any of the rooms!

We stay here every year for the Chestertown Tea Party. This B and B is right in the center of all the activity, walking distance to the river, resaurants and shops. The rooms are nicely appointed with period furniture that is comfortable. Modern amenities include wifi and TV. Breakfast in the dining room or patio is relaxing. afternoon tea is enjoyable and helps break up the day. Kid friendly. Pleasnt staff. Reasonably priced. Great getaway.

Room Tip: The rooms are spacious with their own bathrooms, mini refiderators and sitting areas.

We have spent the weekend at other B & B's in the area but never right in town. We loved having a convenient place to park and then walking everywhere around Chestertown. We never moved the car all weekend. The Tavern was not full and we received an upgrade upon our arrival without even asking--nice touch! One of us had not done his taxes and needed to work on Sunday, and they were very accommodating about letting him stay in the room past check out. Be advised that the Tavern is located right across the street from a church whose clock chimes on the hour--so if you are light sleeper, you might want to stay outside of town.

The White Swan Tavern is located in the middle of the historic district of Chestertown, Maryland, a town chock full of gorgeous Colonial homes (as well as lovely Victorians and other styles) and charming shops. The White Swan is simply irresistible to anyone who loves history and historic buildings. There's no mistaking this is a colonial-era building - the exterior, with brick and clapboard, looks just like it did when earlier travelers arrived by horseback, coach or ship. The interior boasts beautiful antiques and an atmosphere that transports the visitor back to colonial times. Tea is available from 3 to 5 every afternoon in one of the tavern's rooms downstairs, and includes a nice selection of teas and pastries. A continental breakfast is served in the same room as tea, with fruit, scones, croissants, juice and coffee available buffet-style. The room across the hall is fitted out with comfortable chairs for reading and tables for cards or a drink. Sitting in that room brings history alive, and it is easy to imagine conversations of politics (and revolutions!), games of Whist, and tankards of ale being served to boisterous locals and travelers two hundred years ago.

The rooms are charming as well, each different and distinctive. We stayed in a snug room with a canopy bed and slanting eaves that framed mullioned windows overlooking the back garden. The attached bath was spacious. Our (antique) bed was very firm, but comfortable. The only thing that was not great were the pillows, which were totally flat and didn't provide any neck or head support.

All in all, a lovely place. We enjoyed chatting with the innkeepers and other guests, and found the library with its cheery fire in the fireplace, very inviting. We will definitely go back soon.

We spent a weekend at the White Swan....the staff, our room, afternoon tea...everything was great! They had afternoon tea from 3-5, hosted by a staff member who also teaches at Washington College; he was a delight. We enjoyed the display of artifacts found when the old tavern was restored. We enjoyed walking around the old colonial town of Chestertown, and having lunch on the water at the fish restaurant on the river. Breakfast was "continental", but hot scones and rolls added considerably. Our room and bath were very nice. One of the beds was a little on the firm side, but fine. Enjoyed the colonial furnishings. Air conditioning was fine, and we needed it! The guests' living room with TV was charming.

The White Swan is a historic building used prior to 1733 as a tannery and then as a tavern beginning in 1793. Beautifully restored, the rooms are large and comfortable. Located on High St. in the middle of the historic district of Chestertown on the Eastern Shore of MD, this is the perfect place for a quiet week-end. We loved it and will return.

My wife and I have stayed at the White Swan Tavern several times over the past fifteen years, and always loved being there. The inn is completely unique in our experience; being small-scale, intimate, magnificently restored and filled with items consistent with eighteenth-century colonial American design. The two front rooms available for all guests to use on the ground floor give such an authentic ambience of a colonial era inn that you have to remind yourself that you not in a museum setting such as Williamsburg. One of the rooms is set up as a colonial-era tavern would be, with a variety of tables and chairs - now used as the setting for guests' breakfast. The library on the ground floor is very comfortably furnished like a living room in a fine colonial-era house, has a working fireplace for use in the colder months, and a writing desk with captain's chair. It also has an unobtrusive, small tv set.
On this visit, my wife and I were there with our three adult children and their spouses, to celebrate our anniversary and the birthday of one of our children. We had four rooms, all of them exceedingly comfortable and beautifully furnished and decorated in 18th-century style.
The attention to detail and historical authenticity is remarkable. We know of no place that equals it. The moldings and walls in all the rooms are freshly painted. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean and tidy.
There is a large bricked patio at the back that looks out over a large and well-kept garden area.
The patio is equipped with several wrought iron type tables and chairs. The weather was ideal during the weekend we were there this time, and our family sat outside a lot, listening to the birdsong, talking and sipping coffee in the morning and wine before dinner.
The staff of the White Swan Tavern was consistently welcoming and helpful; from the time I contacted them to make reservations several months before our visit, to preparing our rooms before we arrived, offering suggestions for dining and activities during our stay, booking restaurants for our group of eight, and being there for us whenever we asked for their help.
We were very pleased to have been able to meet - and personally thank - the owner as well as the manager and the friendly staff of the Tavern.
There are several very good restaurants in Chestertown. We ate at three of them, and we were very happy with each of them.
We could not have asked for a more peaceful, beautiful place to celebrate these family events together.
We always look forward to our visits at the White Swan Tavern. And now our children do too.

Room Tip: Our family had four rooms for a weekend visit; all were very comfortable and wonderfully furnished w...
