What a wonderful Inn! Beautiful historic home in a secluded location although close to Chestertown. The innkeepers are so friendly and accommodating! They made us feel like family. We had a beautiful weekend, long walks, reading by the fire, shopping in touring in Chestertown ending in wonderful cozy room with a 4 poster bed. We will go back when the weather is warmer although not sure you can beat our weekend at the Inn at Mitchell House!

We spent 2 nights at The Inn at Mitchell House. The Inn is set far off the main road at the end of a private dirt road, and each morning and late afternoons we could hear gunfire from nearby hunters. Tracy was able to answer our questions on what to do and where to eat, and did so in a warm and friendly manner.

The other guests during our stay were a group of hunters who were there to hunt geese, and some friends of the owners, but each morning, we were the only ones at 8:30 breakfast. Without being overtly standoffish, our innkeepers left us with a feeling that we were somehow imposing - perhaps because they were entertaining friends, or perhaps because we were using a BOGO offer?

Our first breakfast was grapefruit halves, cheesy ham & eggs, with home fries and biscuits. Our next breakfast was cantaloupe slices, banana pancakes with bacon and Maine blueberries. The coffee was very good.

The first night was not terribly comfortable, since the temperatures were in the 20s, and the winds were probably 20 mph. This, unfortunately, caused the Inn's heating system to fall short of the mark. I sat watching TV in the common room with my coat on backwards like a Snuggie, and although Tracy provided throws for us to use, even my partner (who is never cold) was chilly. Their pet cat was cold enough to climb up on top of him! There were ample blankets in our room to keep us warm (once we got into bed), but our room was colder than the common room downstairs! The second night proved warmer than the first, but was still a bit chilly. Jim was kind enough to offer me a cup of coffee that afternoon, and it was greatly appreciated. The winds had died down by then and there was a nice fire burning in the common room in the late afternoon, but it had gone out by the time we returned from our dinner.

Other than the temperatures experienced indoors, I would definitely recommend a stay here in more clement weather, especially if the sound of gunfire makes you nervous.

After 25 years of inn keeping, we have always tried to figure out how much or little to engage our guests. We are sorry if you felt we fell short. We try very hard not treat customers using a buy-one get one free certificate any differently. The only reason you were alone at breakfast is because the other guests left early to go hunting. This old house is hard to heat especially with high winds. We are working on that ,but it is a challenge. Waterfowl hunting on the Eastern Shore is a big part of our economy and it is a part of the winter landscape. We’re sorry if it disturbed you. We hope you’ll join us in the warmer months. Thank you, Jim & Tracy

Lovely B&B. Tracy was a wonderful host, serving delicious breakfasts. We were the only guests. Tracy upgraded our room but we actually had the whole place to ourselves! Beautifully furnished with antiques, large spacious rooms, and peaceful surroundings.

We had a wonderful time at The Inn at Mitchell House. It's a beautiful old house in 10 acres of lovely gardens in the countryside near Chestertown (note not walking distance to anywhere much). Tracey, the very friendly owner, upgraded us without our asking to a beautiful room, and the house is a lovely historic building, beautifully kept and with a comfortable lounge as well as a computer room for guests' use. The breakfast was delicious, Tracey gave us really excellent advice as to what to see and do locally, and we really could have spent much longer there if we'd had time. Highly recommended.

Dating from the revolutionary war era, the Inn at Mitchell House is a charming building throughout and comfortable as well, thanks largely to innkeepers Jim and Tracey, who are at all times gracious, friendly, and helpful. Located on a quiet, scenic portion of the eastern shore of Maryland, the Inn sits next to an elegant pond within easy walking distance of the bay. And Tracey is an extraordinary chef. If you need a good break from whatever is occupying too much of your time, this is the place go.

We cannot recommend the Inn at Mitchel House too highly. We live in Manhattan, but some of the best years of Jim's younger life were spent enjoying the benign pleasures of the Eastern Shore
of Maryland- which are epitomized by The Inn @ Mitchell house: gracious hospitality, superb cuisine and a luscious combination of
sea and landscape. The Stones (all four of them!) ae the perfect hosts and guides to this unique section of the Eastern Seaboard. The breakfasts are terrific - the grounds are beautiful. And we have been fortunate enough to have been going there a couple of decades!
