We had the fixed lunch menu of 2 courses which worked out very good value as the food was excellent. The only disappointment with the meal was that online the duck was listed as being on the set lunch menu - but on arrival it was only part of the a la carte. I would have chosen it. However, my second choice of the bass was beautifully cooked and the accompanying couscous (usually so boring) surprisingly tasty. Nice to see haggis as part of the starter menu - a first for my husband who thought it lovely.
The staff were polite and friendly.
The only thing which down-scored this establishment was the décor. We were given a table in the back-room - presumably a function room. As 'interesting' as the décor was it really needed a fresh coat of paint and new wallpaper (which was peeling). Plus it was very dark - a shame as we stared out of the windows on to a beautiful sunny day outside.
Definitely go there for the food.

Wedding anniversary this time so, again, needed a local place open on a Monday and, though last minute, in a sense, they managed to shoe-horn us in. Usual "problem" of choice, resolved by the fall-back of Fillet Steak main course, which was absolutely superb. I really should learn not to fall for the breads as, good as they are, it leads me to struggle a bit over the last few tender morsels of the main, not helped by the really filling Onion Tart starter (the wife had the lighter choice - the Oysters - and declared them excellent too). The problem is that each visit seems to raise the bar but, again, they have met the challenge and triumphed.

We searched on google for places to eat as were nearly and visited this place based on the reviews. The food was fantastic, our waiter was very friendly and chatty and the atmosphere was great. We are very pleased to have discovered this gem of a place! The only thing I'd make a small comment on is that we were served food without napkins. We couldn't seem to make eye contact with the female waitress to ask for some so eventually walked over to ask for some. She was taking bookings as the place was gearing up for a busy Saturday evening. Unfortunately the napkins still didn't appear however we asked again 5 minutes later when our waiter came back and he quickly presented some. Only a small point but for the price we expect the finer details to be taken care of. It certainly doesn't stop them getting 5 stars and yet another couple of repeat customers!

I've been to the Crooked Billet before and always had great food and service but I've been inspired to write a review today as they were just so, so brilliant! We had a few issues with some of our party arriving at different times and they were completely cool - staggering our (fab) meals and were more than accommodating. Thank you everyone at the Crooked Billet!

Have recently dinned here and have to say it was utterly brilliant from the service to the food to the overall ambiance. Paul Clerehugh has got it spot on with his approach and ethos to food and dinning. Will be returning and will constantly be telling everyone about it.
