Visited for an evening meal after staying fairly locally. Really good welcome from all the staff - we could sit anywhere we wanted to eat - we chose the dining room. Lovely old room and pub has nice atmosphere. Menu has a fairly small choice - but we both found something to choose - the sausages and mash with gravy was lovely( really rich dark gravy) and other half enjoyed his fish and chips.
We managed to share a dessert before staying for a few drinks in the bar. They were happy to serve my coffee there. Friendly landlady bantered with other guests who loved it !.
Big thanks to the landlady who organised a taxi for us when we were let down by a local firm , allowing to sit in the bar till the taxi arrived, despite everyone else disappearing off to bed and home !

Creaky floors yes It's a very old & beautiful building !. Some fellow guests said "Not run like a holiday inn is it?" No, & thank God ! Amazing food, great personable staff and a fantastic room ( Henley Hill ). A must revisit, excellent just kill the cockerel !

Visited pub whilst on a walk in the area. All we wanted was a sandwich/baguette - the sort of thing almost all country pubs do. The Stag and Huntsman offered 3 sorts of sandwich - accompanied by chips. We declined the chips. Many places, when we say this, offer salad instead. Not here.

We sat down and saw a sandwich go past to an adjacent table. It comprised thick bread - really thick bread, and a particularly large bowl of chips - thank goodness we had declined the latter! Our sandwiches also had thick bread - each slice over 13mm thick, and a pretty minimal filling. They cost us £7-95 each. The most carbohydrate ridden £7-95 I think I've ever spent. Awful!

A lovely and perfectly charming pub in a beautiful part of the Chiltern hills. Menu is and service very good. The garden is charming and perfect for a quick lunch in the sun as service is very quick. Inside is just as you woukd expect for this charming and delightful village.

As a summer resident I was pleased to see the return of the former manager Claire. The local atmosphere which had disappeared along with most of the locals has returned thanks to Claire's loyal following. The pub is again the center of the village and surrounding area. The Stag attracts it's far share of weekend warriors who enjoy the country walks. The menu now reflects the desire to have both 'true' pub grub and more upscale choices all well prepared. Now if they would only have Caffery's on draft......
