We camped here for 3 nights. The campground is beautiful and right on the water. Bath-house was nice and clean. Registration people were very friendly and helpful. We brought our kayak. They have kayak storage rack at the launch site so you don't have to haul it back to your campsite each day. They have rental kayaks and canoes as well. The "island" has many marked kayak trail, and you could spend several days here and not hit all the trails. There are many ways to get to the beach on the bay.

The kayak launch makes it easy to get going! The paddle is scenic and peaceful. Love going there and do it often. Would recommend it highly.

We stayed here for two nights in the late summer, and it was a pleasant and relaxing stay for us. We were in one of the four full-sized cabins, and the cabins is large and can easily fit a family of 6. The screened porch is especially nice. Visitors do need to bring their own blanket/sheets/towels and pillows though. It would have been nicer if we did not have a loud family next to us with 4 kids, and loud parents but still, it was a good getaway.

The park store has almost everything you need from dish detergent to bait for crabbing or fishing. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would recommend talking to John, one of the park rangers there who is extremely knowledgeable about the water trails in the area. Definitely bring Deet if you are visiting during the warmer times. My only “complain” about the park is that is the check in and check out times for the cabins. Check in is at 5:00pm and check out is at 10:00am. Unlike hotels, the park is extremely strict about it. Even if your cabin is ready at 2:00, they won’t let you in until 5:00. I think it’s something that the park should especially if the cabins are ready. They don’t have to change the time, but they should be more flexible. Afterall, we are bringing our sheets/blankets/pillows/towels, which should reduce some of the cleaning. Just a thought.

We love Janes Island State Park! From the Conference Center and Full service cabins to the tent sites and primitive sites on the island, it's a great place to camp. The park itself is on the mainland with the uninhabited island it is named for just across the Daugherty Creek Canal. Water trails for kayaks and canoes permeate and ring the island which has a nice beach on its west side. Great arrowhead hunting (especially after a storm).

Plenty of activities on the weekends are offered at the Julie Schweikert Nature Center, so you can have fun learning. Check the local paper for a schedule or stop in the camp store to ask.

We most recently stayed in one of the full service cabins and enjoyed a screened porch, full kitchen, three bedrooms (one queen in the first, two twin beds in the second, and two twin beds in the loft area) and a full bathroom. Heat and AC available. There was a small private dock and I am told you can arrange a charter with one of the local captains and have him pick you up from the dock just outside your door.

Word of warning: This park is near a lot of marshy areas and the bugs can be a little much in the warmer months. Make sure to bring your insect repellent of choice and you should be just fine.

I thought I had wrote a review about this place.Went to this park for the first time last year because of the great reviews. They were spot on.It was so good went back again.
We camp for a few nights each time and each time we did not want to leave.
Great camping areas. The fishing and crabbing was off the hook (no pun intended).
Beautiful sunsets as well
Can't wait to visit again.
