“Useful lodging information not available from the National Park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

The most useful thing available here is a listing of all lodging available along the C&O Canal towpath by mileposts and locations. The N.P. does not provide this information, so if you are cycling and need lodging, this is a must have paper to ask for at this facility. Cycling south on a miserable rainy day, I only made it as far as Oldtown before I was soaked and ready to stop. This paper made it possible to phone Barb's Alpaca Farm B&B from Oldtown and arrange a place to stay. There were NO signs of any kind in the N.P. to suggest lodging or any other facilities, nor are they shown on the official map. The B&B was some miles away and she came to pick me up at the Schoolhouse Kitchen right off the towpath (also not advertised).

It's also a good museum to learn about local history.

“Cumberland at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2013

Railroad and waterway history is central to Cumberland. The park and museum provide a good overview of the area and its past importance to US history.

“Nice free museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

The museum to learn about the C&O Canal was free with convenient hours. The museum is staffed by park rangers and there is a little gift shop and a section of brochures for other area attractions. The museum itself was very interesting to learn about life on the canal and about canal boats, etc. There is a partial replica of a canal boat and hands-on activities for the kids and adults alike. Very clean and modern museum. Would return.
