This was a surprise. I only went down here for some photos but came away with a history lesson. The person behind the desk was very knowledgeable for a youngster. There were some great photo ops too.

This is a great information center, park and museum! The staffed information center has extensive brochures and information about the area. The attached museum is small but educates about transportation via waterways in a different time gone by. My visit included a 1.5 hr walk down the C & O tow path on a sunny day. The path is flat and full of greenery - and turtles in the old canal. This center is also very convenient to the center of town filled with shops and eateries. This was a perfect afternoon and will return to do it all again!

This location is absolutely beautiful. Many folks staying at the hotel there (Fairfield Inn) were avid bicyclists on holiday. There is a bike store here as well. Recommend for bicyclists.

most americans do not realize the importance of the canals to the westward migration, this site offers good perspective as well as a "canal boat" to inspect
