This place was absolutely wonderful. We were riding the GAP and expected to arrive early. Towner arranged for us to get into our room and store our bikes at mid-day. The house is cool everywhere inside - a relief on a 90+ degree day. There is a good wifi signal and a computer for use by guests. There were afternoon refreshments left out for guests. Maps of the town and menus for the restaurants were provided. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable. Breakfast was made to accommodate the food requirements of everyone,

Up to the 3rd floor (two big flights of stairs, not for those with bad knees) and surrounded by windows, we slept soundly in the Monk's room, a quiet get-away. The separate AC unit made our stay very comfortable. As it's under the eaves, be careful near the walls where headspace is limited (6'1" husband was at risk, and had to duck sometimes). Pam is an outstanding host, catering to food allergies and dietary needs. She makes delicious muffins and breakfasts (loved the French toast with fresh berry syrup and fluffy eggs). Pam pointed us to the best spots - Berkeley Springs was a real find. Short walk to Canal Place - good food and fun wines at Charis.

Room Tip: Easy access on 1st floor room, but 3rd floors were quite.

The Bruce House Inn was a luxurious stop-over midway between Georgetown and PGH - Pam was out of town - but her staff were attentive and helpful in settling us in. There were 8 of us and we took up most of the inn (with the exception of the Monk's Room). Everyone had a brilliant night's sleep. Pam was back in the morning and made a delicious and abundant carb and protein rich breakfast - perfect for our climb to the Continental Divide (which is a lovely ride - and not as steep as many make out to be) - I highly recommend The Bruce House Inn - and hope to return soon!

Everything at this B&B was immaculate. We stayed in a guest room on the first floor, which was warm and inviting. Comfy bed, nice linens, pretty bathroom. The Innkeeper made us feel right at home. Breakfast the next morning was outstanding with a western style omelet, muffin, fruit and yogurt, served in a lovely dining room. The historic downtown area of Cumberland is within walking distance. The old city architecture is simply incredible. The train station is also within walking distance as is the C&O Canal museum (which was very informative). We were there on a Monday, but plan to return on a day the train is scheduled to run. Definitely a B&B I want to visit again.

We were back in-town for a business meeting, and decided on staying at the Bruce House again. A good choice for comfort, helpful restaurant advice, lovely room, wonderful wine, cheese and crackers upon our arrival, and a great breakfast in the morning, prepared by Pam!
This time we stayed in the new room, on the first floor--great if you don't feel like hauling a suitcase upstairs. The new room is called 'Columbia Bruce' and is well appointed with a lovely en-suite bathroom with full sized tiled shower. There is a cozy fireplace with two chairs and a little table to enjoy some quite time. Pam always leaves nice products in the bathroom to use.
Always a treat to stay with Pam at the Bruce House!!!

Room Tip: Columbia Bruce is on the first floor, great for those that do not want to haul their suitcase upstai...

My wife and I stayed in the Columbia Bruce suite on the ground floor. This room is off the lobby and next to the dining room. It was clean and quiet. This is the newest suite in the inn. The bathroom has a large tiled shower with a rainfall shower head. The bed was comfortably firm and the room was nicely appointed.

There is limited off street parking, but we were able to park our car right outside our room window. There didn't seem to be any crime issues in the neighborhood. I took a walk before going out to dinner and enjoyed the old homes and buildings in Cumberland. The Inn is at the top of a hill and gives a good view of the surrounding town.

Pam was a gracious host, and prepared a wonderful breakfast of French toast, muffins, fruit, and bacon.

We both think The Bruce House Inn is an excellent alternative to a chain hotel. We have started looking to stay at B&Bs on our travels, and should we need a night's lodging in Cumberland, we'll stay at The Bruce House Inn.

We were two couples cycling from Pittsburgh to D.C. Pam was there to greet us upon arrival and provided a safe/secure place for us to store/lock our bikes. Since we already had and early dinner in town, and were not planning to go out again that evening, Pam provided coffee, tea, wine, cheese and crackers, for us to nibble on while we played cards in the dining room--nice touch! We stayed in the Columbia room on the first floor--very spacious w/fireplace and sitting area-it was very clean, private bath was spotless, i loved the 'sit-in' shower and cozy bathrobe provided. Pam did ask if anyone had allergy considerations for breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was individually plated, presentation was beautiful, altho, portions were rather small for cyclists with many miles ahead to ride. French toast with a gourmet raspberry sauce, 2 strips bacon, 1 strawberry, 2 melon balls and a kiwi slice, juice and coffee. Having latent autoimmune diabetes, i didn't think to request a protein source (bacon is not protein) when Pam asked about allergies the night before, since every previous b&b had served a protein source like eggs, peanut butter, cheese and/or yogurt. As we got up to leave after breakfast, Pam asked about the uneaten food--when i explained my situation, she offered to make up some eggs, but we were already getting a late start and since I always carry peanuts and protein bars, i was able to eat those. I don't fault Pam for the situation, but it made me aware not everyone, considers 'protein' a necessary part of breakfast. So, if that is a concern for you, make sure to specify with Pam the night before what your expectation is.
I thought the Bruce House was excellent in every aspect, except for the breakfast small portion and lack of protein--hence the 'very good' instead of excellent in the value category. I would stay here again, i would just make sure to talk to Pam about specifics on the breakfast menu.

Room Tip: If you have any dietary concerns, make sure to confirm specifically what will be served for breakfas...
