I go to the PE every week for our trivia game. This is probably the closest thing to a neighborhood bar that old Ellicott City has (the small plaque out front says a restaurant/bar has been on the site since the 1850s). The food is better than most bars and given the small kitchen, it has a pretty decent selection with some rotating menu items. The crab dip is really good as is the Reuben, French Dip, and Tilapia on a bed of spinach. Wings are good though I've had a couple of dry ones. The Red, White and Blue salad is fantastic (I get the chicken done without the breading). There are no desserts here.
The beer selection is awesome! Just about every week we try one of the usual ones but the PE has a wide selection of microbrews and imports. Check the sign above the bar for new beers and BIG ones (something over 12 oz).
It can be a bit cramped since the PE isn't a huge place. Quite a few TVs on the walls with the latest sports game on but don't expect to hear it since it can be noisy. Service is usually pretty good especially with two people working the floor. We get the same guy every week and he knows our orders so well that he just brings me a pitcher of iced tea.
BTW, don't bother looking at the website - hasn't been updated since 2013. Just come down to Main St and Maryland Ave (across from the B&O Train Station Museum) and grab a cold one!
