“Perfect Getaway to the Woods”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

The Savage River Lodge is a stunning, quiet getaway with unpretentious elegance and an attention for detail that transforms an ordinary weekend getaway into an unforgettable experience. We spent a long weekend to celebrate an anniversary and were absolutely charmed by the special attention we received for the occasion. Our cabin was so warm, cozy and beautifully appointed. The meals truly are fantastic, and we were very appreciative of the vegetarian options offered.

On a side note -- when we arrived it was sixty and sunny. Naturally, it snowed the morning of our departure, rendering our go-kart of a car rather useless on the snowy inclines. Mike graciously offered to give us a tow up and out of the driveway. We are so grateful for the time and attention, and certainly look forward to returning, perhaps in the fall.

Room Tip: The cabins are all well spaced and very private. Even the "road-view" cabins enjoy wonderf...

We had an amazing 2 night stay for our wedding anniversary! The cabins were a great home away from home. We arrived to find an anniversary card along with a bottle of champagne...loved the personal touches!! The sheets on the bed were so comfortable. The food at the lodge was fantastic. We can't wait to come back!!

Recently returned from a 2 night stay in a very private cabin, with lots of great x-country skiing, & fantastic meals. For this type of vacation, I do not know what could have been better. The staff were very helpful & friendly, the cabins were comfortable & private, the cross country skiing was lots of fun, and the bar & restaurant were very nice - with a great wine list & reasonable prices. This was a perfect weekend getaway, in a very secluded setting.

I was so excited to bring my husband here for a quick weekend getaway. We were there between our anniversary and Valentine's day and it was the perfect little spot to celebrate both. We were treated wonderfully and welcomed with a little bottle of champagne in our cabin when we arrived with a note about our anniversary. The customer service was top notch from everyone from the reservations staff, to the check-in clerk, to the servers in the restaurant and the worker at the snow shoe rental desk. The cabin was adorable, spotless and well appointed. We loved having our own little private space to retreat to. We enjoyed fabulous meals at the lodge and met some cool people while renting snow shoes and attending the owner' happy hour. The owners, Mike and Jan, were so warm and welcome and really seem to care about their business and the people they serve. My only regret is that we did not stay longer, something we will be sure to remedy the next time we go! We look forward to many more return visits.

My only word of caution....Please heed the owners' instructions to use only all-wheel drive or four wheel-drive vehicles when arriving in the winter! We had an AWD vehicle and needed it because it snowed as we were preparing to leave. However, other guests had not heeded the warning and got stuck on the driveway. Because of this, we were stuck for quite sometime when trying to head home because Mike had to rescue the other driver and clear the road. He said this happens more then you would believe, despite the many warnings on their website and when you make a reservation. Please, please, please take advantage of the free shuttle service they offer and save yourselves and the other guests the hassle of dealing with the consequences. Part of the beauty of this property is it's remote location in the mountains, but guests must be responsible and follow the lodge's instructions for the safety of everyone involved. Despite the experience, we will still happily return to this spot whenever we can sneak away for some adult alone time!

Room Tip: We loved our forest view cabin. It was very quiet and peaceful.

Rented a cabin over New Years with friends and had an amazing time. The details that the owners put into the cabins, lodge, grounds, menus, etc makes this one of my favorite weekend getaway spots. Fantastic food at the lodge--Cozy cabins to unwind and relax in--and terrific trails to walk your dogs on. I love the morning door step delivery of a newspaper, fresh OJ, muffins and dog biscuits for my pups. The owners don't miss a thing in making sure your stay is memorable. Looking forward to my next return visit.

This property is nestled amidst streams, hills, trees, and immense natural beauty of this area. Our cabin fit in beautiful, simple, yet comfortably elegant. Plank grill salmon and fabulous wine for dinner, followed by a muffin basket in the morning and we were of, with the assistance of the lodge dog, to the trails! After lunch we decided to go riding, which was quickly arranged.

This lodge is a treasure...I look forward to our return!

This was a surprise getaway for my husband...we both left ended up thrilled with our weekend.

My husband and I enjoyed a weekend in one of the cabins at Savage River Lodge. Overall it is a great place to come unwind. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The restaurant served delicious food and provided incredible service.

My only qualm with SRL is that it is a little pricey for what you get. The breakfast included is a muffin and orange juice (which is brought to your cabin along with the Washington Post) and your room isn't turned unless requested by noon that day. For the price and location, I expected a little more.

Overall, it was a beautiful and quiet weekend. SLR is a wonderfully cared for slice of heaven!
