“Such a relaxing place!”

Don't be fooled by the fact that you are staying in log cabins; this is really 'glamping'! Rustic cabins equiped with modern facilities and decorated in a cosy log cabin style, they are so welcoming with a 'gas' log fire, comfy couch and sofas and a super comfortable bed under the eaves in the open loft area. This isn't a vacation rental, there is no kitchen, but there is a fridge for keeping drinks and snacks cool, coffee and tea making facilities and supplies. The Main Lodge has a lovely sitting area with a big log fire, a great bar and a warm, rustic style restaurant where we had great food. It has wonderful porch and a fire pit area. But the big plus for us was the fact we could bring our dog. We spent our time on long hikes on the well marked and well maintained trails around the property where our dog could run off-leash. It was a wonderful stay - with one small detail which is why I didn't give it 5 stars: there was no-where in the main lodge where our well-behaved dog could sit with us - the porches around the property were beautiful and it would have been wonderful to sit there with a glass of wine in the evening but he wasn't allowed on them. It was a very small detail but it would have been great if there had been just one portion of the porch where we could have sat with him. Other guests also commented on it. Having said that, we heartily recommend and will certainly be back.
Note: we recommend booking at the lodge restaurant, simply because it is miles from civilization (exactly what we wanted!)

Another wonderful 2.5 days at Savage River Lodge. We love Cabin 1 with it's gas stove, comfortable beds, beautiful views into the pine forest, cozy furniture and lovely robes! Our meals in the lodge were excellent, Brad made us fresh lemonade after our 4 mile hike on the red trail and all of our servers/bartenders/housekeeping were so friendly and accommodating. Our basket of fresh squeezed orange juice, Wash. Post and freshly made muffins awaited us each morning on our cabin front porch. What we like most about SRL are the owners of this spectacular getaway Mike and Jan. They are always available and always smiling and genuinely interested in hearing from their guests. We have spent all four seasons in Cabin 1 and SRL is beautiful no matter what time of year you visit. It is quiet, relaxing and so much detail is put into each cabin, the main lodge and the property surrounding. The trails are well marked, each with it's own unique characteristics and trail maps are offered with difficulty and distance of each trail so that there are no surprises. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing, healing and welcoming environment, this is the place. Great for families (our son Oliver is 15 and this is his FAVORITE place), couples or groups. You can do nothing or take advantage of the many amenities at SRL. Thanks so much Mike and Jan, we really feel so sad when we leave and always so happy to return.

Room Tip: there are cabins that are pet friendly and premium cabins. They are also 8 new yurts, that fit in so...

My wife and I live in DC and manage to make it out to the Savage River Lodge 2 or three times a year. What keeps bringing us back is its great location in the woods and its friendly staff. Every place I've every gone that I really like has had one thing in common: the staff seem to sincerely care that they're guests enjoy themselves, that's why we love the Savage River Lodge. The lodge is dog friendly, I believe that half the cabins are set aside for people traveling with their dogs; that said, I've never seen anyone letting their dog run loose, or get out of control.

The SRL features a really nice restaurant in the main building (easily walkable from any of the cabins). Each lodge has a small fridge, a coffee maker and a tea kettle, but no other kitchen facilities. When we stay there more than a few days, we try to drive to Grantsville or Frostburg for dinner at least one night, just to shake things up. The SRL is a great place for anyone who enjoys a little peace and quiet. It's a great place to sit on the porch and read a book or walk the miles of trails around the cabin. There are no radios or TVs in the cabins and that's good thing; if you're traveling with people who get are uncomfortable with silence, this might not be the place for you. My only complaint about the cabins is that we've always found the mattresses to be a little too soft for us, but other people probably would disagree.

The Savage River Lodge offers a lot of opportunities for fly fishing. They're in-house fly fishing guide Travis Gilbert is a great teacher. If you think you might be interested, try a have day intro to fly fishing session with Travis booked through the lodge. They'll provide all the equipment you need to see if fly fishing is for you.

I can't say enough nice things about the lodge, we've never had a bad experience there and the one time there was a trivial mix-up they went way out of their way to make it right. It really is a special place.

I took my husband here to celebrate his 50th birthday. When we arrived, there was a birthday note and 2 yummy truffles for us to enjoy. We stayed for 4 nights in February during a snowstorm. The surroundings were magical with the deep-laden snow and more snow falling. We were cozy however in our cabin #1 with the fire burning and sipping on our hot chocolate. We would dress warmly and venture out into the winter wonderland with our hot chocolate in hand and walk along the evergreen bordered road to the lodge where we could warm up by the massive wood-burning fireplace. The lodge was a great place to relax and meet new people. The dining room served excellent food, and we had great service. We were never disappointed with the presentation or taste. The prices are steep however, and the only thing I would change would be to have a full breakfast included in the bed and breakfast night's stay. The inn does provide a morning basket with juice and a muffin, but at the price for a night's stay, I think more could be provided.

Our cabin was very cozy, warm and well appointed with a rustic flair. Loved all the windows with the woodsy views. Would appreciate a small microwave in the room for warming up our milk for hot chocolate and other goodies.

We definitely want to return.

Room Tip: Ask about the cabins that have never had a pet stay in it(like our cabin #1) especially if you are a...

The Savage River Lodge is a stunning, quiet getaway with unpretentious elegance and an attention for detail that transforms an ordinary weekend getaway into an unforgettable experience. We spent a long weekend to celebrate an anniversary and were absolutely charmed by the special attention we received for the occasion. Our cabin was so warm, cozy and beautifully appointed. The meals truly are fantastic, and we were very appreciative of the vegetarian options offered.

On a side note -- when we arrived it was sixty and sunny. Naturally, it snowed the morning of our departure, rendering our go-kart of a car rather useless on the snowy inclines. Mike graciously offered to give us a tow up and out of the driveway. We are so grateful for the time and attention, and certainly look forward to returning, perhaps in the fall.

Room Tip: The cabins are all well spaced and very private. Even the "road-view" cabins enjoy wonderf...

We had an amazing 2 night stay for our wedding anniversary! The cabins were a great home away from home. We arrived to find an anniversary card along with a bottle of champagne...loved the personal touches!! The sheets on the bed were so comfortable. The food at the lodge was fantastic. We can't wait to come back!!

Recently returned from a 2 night stay in a very private cabin, with lots of great x-country skiing, & fantastic meals. For this type of vacation, I do not know what could have been better. The staff were very helpful & friendly, the cabins were comfortable & private, the cross country skiing was lots of fun, and the bar & restaurant were very nice - with a great wine list & reasonable prices. This was a perfect weekend getaway, in a very secluded setting.
