“Stayed a week, didn't go back”
Reviewed 24 August 2010

Was planning on staying for the entire duration of a 16 week project in the Maryland area. Had a negotiated per night rate that was to include breakfast. Every morning was a battle with the front desk and the breakfast waitress about our "complimentary" breakfast (FYI, breakfast is not normally included in the price of a room but our sizable group from a Fortune 500 corporation had negotiated it as part of our package). The area surrounding the hotel is an industrial park with no restaurants or other infrastructure anywhere close (with the exception of the Metro/Amtrak station very close to the hotel). You need to go quite far to get food or find a CVS or even get gas.

The rooms need renovation. I had a suite (since I was a platinum Marriott member-and even had to ask for that) and it needed some help. Bed sagged, blankets were not that good, very plain appointments, and old ceiling and floor coverings. Hallways were dim and in need of maintenance-stained ceiling tiles, lights not working, and dirty carpeting were just a few of the observations I made when I was there.

The only reason to stay here is if you were wanting a hotel out of Washington, plan on commuting to D.C. every day and are going to have all your meals somewhere other than New Carrollton. Otherwise, pass on the New Carrollton Courtyard.

This courtyard was typical. It was clean , but the rooms are small. The bathroom is tiny. Air conditioners stopped working, had to call maintenence twice. They did respond right away. Breakfast is ok, nothing great, and not free like at hamptons and other places. Front desk staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. It was fine for a quick stay, but if there is a hampton inn around, it would be a better value for the same type of room.

This hotel rated highly due to the relative location (in Landover MD) about 20-30 minute drive to DC. We liked the fact that the Metro station was either a short walk or a courtesy van ride. We used the courtesy van and the hotel staff were always prompt in taking us and picking us up from the station once we had arrived (within 5-10 minutes) so we never had to wait. This hotel is located in a business park so relatively safe part of the city outskirts. Area restaurants (mostly chains such as Longhorn Steak House, Unos Pizza and Olive Garden) were located about 10 minute drive to Bowie, MD. Our first night there we were put in the bottom floor of the hotel and our room (#25) smelled like stale fritos and smelly feet combined. We attempted to open the window and were unable to lock it so asked the hotel staff to come down. We hinted around about the fact the room did not smell good, but were not offered another room. Due to the fact we were fairly tired, having driven from NJ and sight-seeing in Philly, we decided we would stick it out and stay in the room the first night to see if the smell improved. It did not so we asked to move the next morning and were promptly reassigned a room to the 1st floor which was much better. If we had not been allowed to switch, we would have left and found another hotel. After that, our stay was much more pleasant. The hotel in general other than that was fine. Pool was nice and had lifeguards. We had to do laundry and ran into some very unpleasant guests who did not remove their dried clothes within 1 hour from the one drier there. My husband did remove them and placed them back in the bag they had come in on top of the dryer. When he came back, all OUR stuff was removed from the drier and strewn around on the floor. He put it back in and checked every 1/2 hour or so to see if it was done and apparently the dryer occupants before us seemed to feel they needed to open the dryer door and pull our stuff out on regular intervals. We figured it was a bunch of teens that were in the hotel but that was not the fault of the hotel. I would recommend this hotel based on it's location and less expensive prices compared to downtown DC as it was convenient but be aware of how your room smells and take the sniff test before you unpack. Breakfast buffet was good, we tended to eat later when the buffet was closed to being closed so they were running out of stuff but willing to replenish for us. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating so for this reason I would return but I would recommend installing more washers/driers for the guests. I rated the sleep quality less just based on the smell factor (our first room smelled so bad that I did wake up a few times that night. Beds were comfy and rooms spacious. Just a few improvements and it would have been a better experience.

I was looking for a hotel for one night with my family. This hotel wasn't the cheepest, but was a great rate for a DC trip. Loved the location, right by the metro station. They have shuttle service, but on weekends the parking at the metro is free, so we just drove our car ourselves. The pool was great with a hot tub/spa and they had a life guard on duty. I haven't seen a lifeguard at a hotel pool in a VERY long time. Having school age children with me, the guard made me feel very comfortable. They don't have a resturant so to speak, but have an amazing breakfast bar and seating area. They also have room service, and a lovely lounge space. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were to allow you to order room service and eat it in the lounge area (by the fire). The staff was bend over backwards lovely and helpful. The hotel was large enough that you felt like you had lots of room to roam but small enough that you didn't feel lost. Free parking at the hotel and lots of safety measures to enter and exit from the various doors. If you don't have a key card, you aren't getting in one of those doors. There is a fitness center and computer/business center. Both only accessable by key card. The rooms were clean, roomy enough but not enormous, and comfortable. I would recommend this location to ANYONE but if you are a family planning a getaway weekend to DC this is a great, quiet, safe location. Having grown up in the Baltimore/DC area I know that safety is not always easy to find when you don't know the area well. This one was so quiet! The hotel seemed to be in a business park area, not a neighborhood area.

Very nice staff, close to the subway/metro station - staff will drive you over there if you call down to front desk. We walked to metro station a couple of times & had them take us a couple of times. Once we arrived back at metro we would call the front desk for a pick-up and the longest we waited for them to come was ten minutes. Hotel had a very nice indoor pool & had a lifeguard on duty as well. We traveled with two teenage daughters & they loved the pool! Hot tub was nice after long days of walking in downtown DC. The only nearby food was a Subway across the street from the hotel in a business building. But it's right by the highway so we drove to breakfast & dinner a couple of times and it was 5 or 10 minutes to a strip of restaurants - very easy drive to find restaurants, etc. It is about a 20 minute metro ride to get to the main part of DC - but for the cost savings compared to the hotels nearer to downtown it was definitely worth it! We would definitely stay again if in the area.

Stayed here in a King room for about 8 days. The rooms were well kept, clean and comfortable. The wireless internet access was quick and easy.

I didn't east breakfast here so I cannot say, but it was not cheap, though you could spend as much at say a local IHOP.

The bathroom was clean and comfortable, with good towels and always restocked with the small toiletries.

My only problem was that these rooms do not have a microwave. I called in advance to have one made available (as it says you can), but when I arrived, there was not to have. I was told I would have one placed in my room when it was available, but it didn't happen until I called the front desk a few days later.

But, I would recommend this place as a reasonable priced, clean and comfortable place with a friendly staff.

Excellent hotel with friendly and very helpfull staff . Located close to Metro Station for tripping into DC. Security is good. Can't say a bad thing about this hotel. A good base for sightseeing in DC.
