Holiday Inn BWI Airport
Ranked #8 of 29 Hotels in Linthicum Heights
Reviewed 29 March 2005

I stayed at the Comfort Suites BWI Airport in mid-March of 2005, along with the players and parents of a volleyball team that I coach, for the Northeast Qualifier at the Baltimore Convention Center. We paid approximately $90 per night through Expedia.

The hotel was certainly functional, and we were pleased to find a decent place for considerably cheaper than the downtown hotels. My room was clean, though simple. The view from the window was somewhat depressing. I always find it somewhat comical that these hotel chains can in good conscience declare a hotel room a "suite" by installing a two foot partition to designate the separate "rooms" in the suite. There was no pool or hot tub, which I always appreciate at a hotel when I'm traveling.

On the positive side, the complimentary continental breakfast was solid. The lobby was attractive. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Free parking is always nice. The location, though obviously not downtown, was less than fifteen minutes from the Convention Center and Inner Harbor, with one simple turn onto 295. There is a 14-screen movie theatre about two minutes away, which was a nice diversion with a team of adolescent girls. The counter space in the bathroom was large, and it was great to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room.

Though I was not wowed by my experience at this Comfort Suites, it certainly served our needs well and was a good economic decision for our team.

An early flight brought me to the Comfort Suites BWI Airport over the holidays. As the name suggests, this is an all-suites hotel so each room has a separate sitting area from the beds. The room was quite clean and spacious and all the appliances were in tip top shape. Like the previous reviewer, I too stumbled out of the raised bathtub so just take extra care when stepping out. The staff was very friendly and never hesitated to assist you. Because I had a 6 a.m. checkout I didn't have a chance to sample the complimentary continental breakfast but everything looked fresh and delicious. There is no real restaurant on the premises, but upon request the front desk will give you a list of the many restaurants that are within a mile of the hotel (I recommend Champion's Sports Bar & Grill at the BWI Airport Marriott, located directly across the street. Good food and the prices are reasonable.). Free shuttle service is provided to and from the airport, as well as the nearby Amtrak Station. If you have a morning flight it is best to reserve a seat, as the shuttles to the airport are extremely packed at that time.

I was quite pleased with this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

We stayed 4 nights in June 2004. All staff members we encountered were friendly, pleasant, and helpful. Our room was quiet and reasonably furnished.
The problems with our room mostly centered on the bathroom, where the coffeemaker and refrigerator are located. That was very unappealing so we moved the coffeemaker out to the table in the sitting area. The front of the refrigerator was rusted. The bathtub is slightly raised, so that when you step out of the shower, you have to step down farther than you expect, and we both stumbled several times. This is a MAJOR accident waiting to happen, if it hasn't already. Towels were thin and rough, but replenished daily. The electrical outlet was pulled out from the wall.
Another problem was a noticeably soiled blanket which was replaced when we requested it. On 2 days, our coffee supplies were not replenished. And if you are particular about coffee quality, bring your own! A nice continental breakfast is served until 10:00am daily, but by 9:30 there wasn't much left, so you need to get there earlier.
I absentmindedly left my cell phone charger in the room when we checked out and called the hotel from the airport to see if they could locate it. The front desk already had it and readily agreed to MAIL it to me. Instead, they sent it via Fedex First Priority which resulted in a whopping $53 charge on my credit card.
With the problems, it wasn't a terrible stay, and the hotel did provide a great package deal through Expedia. Next time, though, we will look for something a bit nicer, unless the prices are too good to pass up.
