Bill's is the only place near the trail to eat but it is a decent spot with a lot of local color. Enjoyed the visit.

Bill’s Place is a must stop on the C&O Canal towpath. Good food, good cheer and exocentric company is the rule of the day. Sad to report that Bill Schoenadel passed last January (2013) but his son Jack and his wife have taken over operations and have no plans to change anything or sellout. This infamous watering hole along the towpath has served up meals and libations to countless travelers since Bill bought the old Callahan’s Country Store in 1969. The old building burned to the ground in 2000 and the present Bill’s Place was rebuilt on the original site. When you come into Fifteen Mile Creek Campground at mile marker 141, take the NPS access road across the canal ditch, turn right onto High Germany Road for about 100 feet then left through the old railroad underpass with the 1904 keystone above. You are in bustling downtown Little Orleans! Bill’s is another 50 feet up the road on your right. Try the Chicken Platter. Only my Mama’s is better!

After riding the C&O Canal towpath all day, Bill's is an oasis for a cold beer and friendly people. The bartender called the B&B we were staying at and they sent someone to pick us up at Bill's.

Food mostly fried, but lots of beer. Cash only. Bill's son now in charge. Very near Little Orleans Lodge, which is a good thing because there isn't any other eating place nearby! Friendly staff.

While bicycling on the C&O towpath in a steady rain, I stopped in Little Orleans and headed into Bill’s Place, where the bartender was busy eating lunch and chatting with locals clutching beer bottles. After a few minutes, he looked my way and said “Let me know when you want to order something”. I asked if he had any draft beer; he looked around and said “I don’t see any”. They all laughed and I walked out.
