“Fun! Very Clean Campground”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

Just returned from a relaxing 2night/3day Tent camping trip with my family and we had a blast! Our family included hubby and boys (10, 12, 13 y/o ). Our site was right in front of the jumping pillow and playground which was surprisingly convenient (keeping an eye on the boys) and shaded. We usually go for the more secluded spots, which they have plenty of in the back, but found not having to walk far for anything... perfect. We took advantage of all the free amenities (pool, ping pong(50cents for ball), endless hours on the bouncy pillow, and large chess game etc. The pool was simple with no frills (goes to 5.5ft) however we we enjoy it very much and spent most of our time relaxing there (endless hours). The area was clean, had some shade, lounge chairs, tables, and life guard. You should know that non-potty trained kids may not enter the pool (city policy). I am OK with that but parents with little one may not be - perhaps bring a small baby inflatable pool and fill with water at your site? We did rent their low riding bikes for a half an hour ($6 each) and the boys found them to be entertaining but a lot of work. Wish they could be free for the first half hour but I guess they wouldn't make any money because a half hour is more than enough (unless your an elite athlete that is). So maybe half the price? What hubby and I enjoyed most about the campground was that it was very clean and kept up. Staff was friendly and felt welcomed. They make their rounds and enforce the rules without being over the top. We loved it enough that we skipped our trip to DC. - the kids didn't blink an eye. Oh and free Wifi - not too shabby. Caveats: You can hear some traffic noise due to the highway close by. The upside is that it makes reaching stores and other cities faster. It was easy to get to Baltimore. Also, I wish the deep sink for washing dishes was located closer. You must/should dump your dirty dish water in designated area if provided. And per my hubby, wished the site was a little more grassy than dirt - but hey it is no fun without some dirt right? Either way, we look forward to coming back!

Room Tip: If you would like a cabin, I would ask for one away from the highway side. Consider convenience of...

We stayed in the Lodge cabin for 6 nights while we were seeing all that D.C. has to offer. The 3 of us (my mom, 12 yr old son, and I) were very comfortable and had plenty of room while staying here. We were able to come home from lots of walking in museums and cook a meal and sit down and relax. This cabin has a nice futon couch with TV and table and chairs with a kitchen (full fridge/freezer, sink, microwave, oven/stove top, dishes, toaster, etc). bunk bed, with a separate room with a queen size bed. Nice bathroom with shower.

The staff here is very friendly and helpful!! It has a store/gift shop where you can rent the most fun pedal cars!! Also, the jump pillow and pool table, ping pong table and large chess set was great fun!!

I would not hesitate to recommend this place to friends!!

My wife, two teenage boys and I stayed 3 nights in one of the cabins at this KOA in Millersville MD. It’s a great location, easy to get in and out of, only a 45 minute drive from DC. There were so many activates too, basketball, table tennis, an outdoor billiard table that was surprisingly level and the pool. They had stuff for younger kids too. The staff were also amazing, especially Lee who delivered our fire wood every night.
We will be back to this KOA when visit DC again.

We stayed here for 2 nights for a quick trip to DC. It fit our needs because we were not there much. Long pull thru sites but very skinny. Staff was friendly and helpful, clean campground, dog run was wonderful. Dof run was the best part. No major complaints, typical KOA.

This is the nicest KOA I've ever stayed at... They run it like a well-oiled machine! I was impressed with all of the activities that are available for children and families. The camp store was fully stocked with everything you need to camp.

We almost took their 9 AM shuttle to DC (returns at 5 PM at ~$24? per person), but unfortunately they didn't have a bike rack on the shuttle for our bikes. Instead, we opted to drive to New Carrollton Metro Station (~20 miles from the KOA) and parked our car all day for $5, bought round-trip tickets from New Carrollton to the Smithsonian & back for $6.50 each, totaling $13 for both of us… plus gas $$... we like to save money! Keep in mind with bikes; you need to board the Metro after the rush hour (NOT between 6-9 AM & 4-7 PM).

Biking around D.C. is the only way to go if you are solo, a couple or a family with teens... you can get around town very easily and can see a lot more of the sights in one or two days! There are racks to lock your bikes all over the place.

We did laundry at the KOA & all of the washers & dryers were working great. We used the dryer for only one cycle & our entire load was dry!

My only negative about the Capitol KOA was when I called to see if they had water & electricity (due to the June 29th storm), I was explaining to Susan, on staff, that we spent three days at another KOA without electricity & no showers! And she quipped, "So, what's your point?" WOW.

We camped here as a family about 10 years ago & it has improved a lot over the years! Very, very family friendly.... a little expensive to tent camp but we are frugal & saved money instead of staying at a hotel!

Had an unexpected change in our travel plans and made a last minute decision to try to see the USS Constellation at Inner Harbor, MD. Called the morning of our travel from SC to see if they had room for a Class A coach and towed car for non-KOA members. Promised plenty of space for us.

We arrived in the afternoon and found a beautifully maintained, peaceful campground with wonderful, helpful, respectful staff. After checking in (and given a miltiary discount!), an "ambassador" was sent to show us to our site. A large pull-thru that more than accomodated our large coach.

We were only staying one night, but everything and everyone at Capitol KOA was hospitable, pleasant, peaceful and immaculate! From the laundry room to the pathways, every care has been taken to make this as pleasant a place as possible.

Thank you for an enjoyable, albeit short, stay at your facility! If we have to travel in your area again, we will definately stay with you!

Room Tip: Make sure you tell them when reserving, if you have a Class A coach or very long trailer. They DO h...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was very accomodating to our large family by giving us a sight that well suited our needs. They were very friendly and helpful, though one staff member gave us good directions but incorrect length of time to destination. She said we wouldn't encounter much traffic at 7:00 am, when in fact it was bumper to bumper, which made us late for a tour that we didn't get to do. A couple of guys showed up at the sight next to ours the last night at 2 am to set up their tents and shined their high beams into our trailer while we were trying to sleep. That wasn't the campground's fault. So, other than that, our stay was very nice, and we hope to stay there again in the future.
