My family was looking for an excursion while in OC. Assateague Adventures fit the bill.
The boat leaves from Talbot Pier just two blocks off the boardwalk. You go on a short boat trip where the guide tells you some of the history of OC MD and the fishing town roots of the area. Along the way you may see groups of the wild ponies that inhabit the island (we did, but they do not guarantee it). You anchor off the coast of Assateague for about 15 minutes where you can grab a net and try to catch fish, crabs, etc. on our trip we saw a horseshoe crab, hermit crabs and schools of smaller fish that alluded all but one young boy on our boat. As we were getting back on the boat, one pony came to the water to enjoy a drink. That was worth the modest cost for me. On the boat ride back, our guide shared information about many of the sea animals that live on/ near the island. My child got a kick out of helping to show off a starfish.
The whole trip was about two hours and if you take the last boat out, you arrive back just in time it have dinner at a place on the boardwalk or pier.
