“Oceanfront and inexpensive at the beach!”
Reviewed 12 September 2011

We went for a few days and had a great experience. We got a great rate, they even bumped us up to a suite. Service was fast and attentive. It is indeed an older hotel and does show it's age but for the price and being oceanfront I couldn't do any better anywhere else.

Pros: on the beach, rooms large.

Cons: bathroom sink about ready to fall off. Hair dryer blows room fuse (twice). No ice machine, no ice trays in freezer. Phone did not work very well (had maintenance guy come up and fix, but continued to have problems contacting even front desk). Beach chairs had to be returned by 6 pm. Check in not before 4 pm, and no late check outs past 11 am. Furniture beat up, shower head not attached to wall, all metal fixtures had rust. Had the look and feel of a communist apartment complex. No screen on sliding glass door, zero free electrical outlets. Wifi only worked in half the room. Pool small and in parking lot. DO NOT GET JOLLY ROGER COUPONS THROUGH THIS HOTEL - only good for 4 hours in the afternoon. Cost - all this for $300 a night?? Lesson learned here.....

We stayed at this hotel last year and liked it so much that we decided to return another year. This year, we stayed in one of the 5th floor King Oceanfront Efficiencies and definitely could not complain. We paid $259/night, but that is a competitive price if you have been shopping around the other hotels. The room was definitely very clean and spacious. Had all working appliances (coffee maker-didn't try it, don't know how it was, microwave, oven, fridge). The refrigerator and freezer kept our items extremely cold. The AC in the room actually worked SO well that we had to turn it DOWN a few nights since we were so cold. The view from the 5th floor is absolutely gorgeous. Everyone here, from the hotel workers, ladies cleaning the rooms, receptionist, to other vacation goers, were EXTREMELY polite! I actually could not believe how friendly people were, it's great to know that there are a lot of wonderful people still left in the world!

The shower is small and the water pressure is not that great, but really, are you looking for a "great" shower when you go on vacation? I wasn't, so I don't understand when people complain about such minor things. Those who gave this hotel negative reviews had to have a horrible experience ( I don't know how that's possible unless you are annoying vacationers) because I could not find one thing wrong with this place. The pool does it's job too. Yeah, it is little, but there is a massive ocean only steps away. Again, I would definitely recommend this hotel to others, don't listen to the negative reviews!!!

My family stayed here for 2 days and we wished we could have stayed longer. The rooms we stayed in were oceanfront on the second floor. We had a GREAT view of the ocean. Rooms were clean. Medium sized rooms, bathroom was okay too.
The tv was great to get the kids settled at night.
The sign on the pool says it closes at 8 we enjoyed it well past 930. Water was warm but a bit sandy.
Warning to smokers: the ac units kick out a of hot air, so be careful where you sit or stand on the balconies.
Overall... loved this place and we stay here again.

We chose this hotel for two reasons. 1) It is oceanfront. 2) It had clean, affordable suites. (Other options were either $500/night high end hotels or cheap, older looking places). We weren't disappointed.

We had an oceanfront suite (2 rooms) on the 5th floor with a great view. The hotel is clearly older, but besides the bathroom which was a bit 80's our suite had been recently renovated (new carpet, furniture, appliances) and it looked like the inside of the hotel was freshly painted. The couch had a couple of stains on it - not sure why they got a light color upholstery for a hotel room! Cleaning service did a good job each day. In the suite, each room had a flat screen and an iHome docking station, and the main living area had a dvd player. Room had a free safe. Room was quiet at night. We did have to hang a towel over the window in the 2nd bedroom to darken it for our young kids - there were only miniblinds on the small window there and they let in too much light in the morning.

The hotel is at 45th and the boardwalk starts around 25th or 30th...It will take you 20-30 minutes to walk down to the boardwalk (we just drove down). The upside of being away from the boardwalk is that the hotel is quiet and the beach isn't overcrowded. We loved that!!! There is also a parking lot right behind the hotel and you get a space with your room - we had no trouble parking at the hotel.

We had to pay $400 for Saturday night, which felt overpriced to me but then again it was oceanfront in peak season. Paid $300/night the rest of the stay which felt fair. One thing to note - the hotel is under new ownership...apparently it changed hands a few days before we arrived.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the newly renovated rooms

Okay, ordinarily I don't like to stay in a hotel unless I've read the reviews on it first, but this was one of those exceptions. We made reservations here because many of the other hotels in the area were either full or charging extremely high prices, and we knew we couldn't afford to be too picky. After making the reservation, I did check the reviews -- and got a little concerned.

Thankfully for us, it turned out quite well. We reserved two rooms, and both of them were quite clean and comfortable. I love a hotel that has good cold air conditioning, and the a/c worked so well in these rooms we all turned a little blue! Everything in the room functioned as it was supposed to, so we had no complaints whatsoever.

Initially I was a little disappointed that this hotel was so far from the boardwalk and many of the other popular areas, as I usually try to stay closer to the action when I'm in OC. Nonetheless, this hotel is right on the beach -- mere footsteps -- and ironically, I kind of liked being in a more remote location at the end of the day. I could sit on my balcony and absorb the sounds of the ocean without hundreds of passers-by. It felt more remote and peaceful.

The staff was warm and welcoming throughout our stay, quick to make sure we had everything we needed. The parking lot is awful -- but that's not exactly uncommon in OC. It's sort of land-locked, though, so I'm unsure what the hotel could do to improve that situation, if anything.

Rooms were a bit high, but since it's the middle of summer I would expect as much. Rates were still competitive in relation to other similar hotels, though. All in all, not a bad stay at all.

Although it is a beachfront hotel (that and free parking are the best two things about it), it is nowhere near worth the $300/night we paid. The front desk clerk was rude, the tiny pool is located IN the parking lot, the towels and bedding are cheap, there is no ice machine (in a $300/night hotel????), the balconies aren't very relaxing (you can hear the folks on the balcony next to you and the barking dogs from the complex next door), our Wifi wouldn't work, etc. We won't stay here again.
