“Fantastic stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2013

Stayed there past two nights. So much history and such great information available. The Chef and proprietor, Mark, not only prepares wonderful food, but visits with his guests. We had terrible rainy weather, but the warmth of the place and the excellence of the meals, plus afternoon tea, made our stay a delight. I noticed another reviewer mentioned lack of a/c, but all rooms are air conditioned. We were also pleased to be allowed to bring our dog along. Lots of great places to walk or sit along the shoreline. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Our room was in front and overlooked the water and the front. Perfect.

Bought a LivingSocial voucher for a two-night stay in off-season. Staff were friendly and the food in Salter's Tavern was very good. Afternoon tea and breakfast included with the room and that is a good value. The Robert Morris Inn (dating from 1710 as a residence) is very old, and one expects a certain lower level of comfort. The Admiral's Rooms are pictured on the website. The Captain's rooms are one floor further up and much smaller. The in-room bathroom was well-done, clean, and modern. The only thing we didn't care for were some of the furnishings. Those in our room seemed to be (literally) children's furniture, which meant the chair and love seat were quite uncomfortable, and the mattress sagged to one side. Furniture/furnishings in the common areas were worn and could use some re-upholstering. Oxford is a pretty little town but little is open in the off season. Also ate in Pope's Tavern (Oxford Inn) and the food and ambiance was very good, with friendly staff.

Room Tip: Admiral's Rooms seem to be larger and better appointed.

So pleased you appreciated the value on offer over these winter months. It certainly draws new people in to Oxford and this wonderful part of the Eastern Shore. Little spoilt and little changed this is an area full of history, character and charm. Our Inn too reflects this charm and we do appreciate that is not to everyones taste. We thank you for your comments and will certanly keep them in mind as we go forward into another season.

My wife and I spent an overnight at this very quaint b&b in Oxford. Our room was fine and dinner and breakfast on Sunday were both incredible. Without A/C I cannot imagine how warm the rooms are in July and August, so I`m glad we were there in February. My only request would be a pot of coffee in the study in the morning for us early risers. Other than that it was very nice.

Room Tip: The ferry from St Michael to Oxford does not run in the winter.

Dear Captain
Thank you for visiting our Inn and delighted you enjoyed it and the food in particular. We do actually have airconditioning units in the rooms for the hotter months. So you could consider returning then and the breeze coming right off the Tred Avon cools on even the hottest day. We will certainly keep in mind your suggestion for the early coffee, which we do provide if requested the night prior.

My stay at the Robert Morris Inn met and well exceeded my expectations. The staff was absolutely incredible and made it a point to make sure we felt welcome and were comfortable. The owner/chef even came out to talk to us while we were having afternoon tea! The room was beautiful and well kept. The food...there are no words for how incredible the food was! We ate both breakfast and dinner at the Inn and everything was divine. Drinks at the bar were made especially pleasant by cheerful and entertaining bartenders. The town of Oxford itself is small, welcoming, and relaxing. We will definitely be returning to the Robert Morris Inn!

This was our second stay at the Robert Morris Inn. We attended their Rabbie Burns Nicht celebration last year and again on the 19th. I don’t know where to start! The tavern is wonderful. They have a great selection of ALL spirits. The food is simply magnificent! The Burns Nicht is so incredible that you really HAVE to experience it in order to wholly appreciate such a wonderful tradition! Brian Gibson does an Oscar-worthy presentation of all things Burns and the Chef, Mark Salter, along with his staff, do an equally astounding job. The breakfast is wonderful—try the Eggs Benedict—best EVER! The rooms are lovely and always well looked after. The entire staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. We will be back for next year’s celebration and hopefully we will also be able to visit again during the summer months. A real pleasure!

Many thanks for your kind words and generous comments. Our Burns Nights became an instant hit and we are already half sold out for 2014 dates and they are on our web site now. We have a great team here and for those nights are so well supported by our local talented piper Randy Walsh and of course our "foolhardy chairman" Brian flown in from Stirling Castle. We'll raise a glass to next year and look forward to seeing you then, if not through the summer.

The Inn dates to early 1700 and is a quaint building with floors sloping any way and few square door frames. The tavern/dining room has a very inviting ambiance with wood paneling and great brick fireplaces. From what we saw each room is unique. A very pleasant stay while enjoying the area.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor have king beds while the second seems to be queen or double beds.

We have been returning to the Robert Morris Inn every January (for the last 3 years) to meet up with friends in a cozy, comfortable, relaxing, historical atmosphere! Janet, the manager, is not only extremely pleasant and authentic, but goes out of her way to make sure our needs are met. She made us feel as if we were the only guests (we were not,by any means!). We have stayed in 3 different rooms--all well-equipped and surprisingly spacious (keep in mind this is the oldest inn in the US). Yes, the floors are a bit creaky and uneven, but (we feel) this adds to the historical significance! Service in the bar and restaurant is exemplary--not pushy but solicitous. Dinner was exquisite--definitely comparable to the best of DC's finest. The lobster appetizer was...incredible. (The chef has earned his stellar reputation and was kind enough to come out of the kitchen and have a chat with all at the end of the evening). We hope to be able to secure a room in the spring or fall!
