Description: Once the home of Robert Morris who gained fame as "Financier of the Revolution". General and later President George Washington was a close friend and visited Robert Morris often. In more recent times author James Michener outlined his famous novel, Chesapeake here and fell in love with our renowned crab cakes. Now the Eastern Shore's most unique historic restaurant with rooms under celebrity Chef Proprietor, Mark Salter and Ian Fleming.Enter the Inn and step back 300 years: a pristine yet historic interior welcomes with timber beams, panelled walls and open fires in the cooler months. Through to Salter's Tavern featuring historic red brick walls and old slate floors, with magnificent fires in the cooler months and offering casual outside dining on our Terraces and Veranda during balmy warm summers. This is a truly historic Inn, cosy with a natural patina running through. Friendly, great cuisine and understated professional service.

“You want great Eastern Shore seafood?”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

I drove down to Oxford thinking that I hope I can find some outstanding seafood from the Chesapeake Bay. If you're thinking the same thing head straight to the dining room at the Robert Morris Inn. I started with perfectly fried oysters, followed by maybe the best crab cake I've ever eaten, and then my dessert selection was perhaps unorthodox, but I enjoyed it. I had opted for the oysters for the appetizer in stead of the equally tempting soft shell crab, so I had that for my dessert. Life is not always about following the crowd. Finally, the breakfast included in your overnight reservation is also loaded with high quality tasty items. Be sure to try the eggs Benedict with the lump crab. WOW...and their coffee is also very flavorful. Enjoy your time on the Bay.

“Tasty and fresh!”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Warm fresh baked bread with dinner and delicious breakfast options. You must try the eggs Benedict with lump crab. We went there as suggested by the Sandaway Waterfront Lodging (right across the streeet) which is where we stayed for our mini getaway.

“Beautiful location and the best crab cake ever”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

So I gave away the review....sat on the porch with a view of the water. Had an amazing crab cake - yes, it was $29.00--but it was full of crab meat, excellently prepared and presented. (other places charge this much for mediocre crab cakes). Dining companion had an equally tasty fish special. Dessert of Ailsa's chocolate carrot cake was more chocolate than carrot but not a fatal flaw. Service was lovely. We will be back.

What a wondefull review, thank you so much and for sharing with fellow travelers too. We use the best jumbo lump crab meat we can find and not much else. This year the crab numbers have been down so sadly the price has gone crazy but we are committed to trying to offer the best value we can.
