“Rude Staff, Service was Fair”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

I was involved in a wedding recently and unfortunetly had to stay at The Oaks. Everyone from the initial check in to the staff at the weddding were awful. I would never reccomend this establishment for a wedding venue nor a weekend getaway. I feel horrible for the bride and groom to have to endure such an awful staff on their special day. Never go here, TERRIBLE!

Room Tip: Water front rooms are nice, not worth the $328/night rate though

I would like to thank this guest for taking the time to write a review about The Oaks and their recent stay with us while attending a wedding. Knowing that every bride has the opportunity to select the venue for their wedding from literally thousands of different venues we feel very fortunate and honored to be selected as the wedding venue for over 50 brides each year. As the Manager to this wonderful venue I am on property and available to every guest staying with us or attending a wedding. I am saddened that this guest felt as though they had a poor experience with us but I am even more saddened that they choose not to let me know during their stay with us so that I could handle any concerns they may have had. With only 14 guest rooms in the B&B the bride and groom actually provide us with the list of guests that are nearest and dearest to them that they want to have stay on property however every guest does have the right to decline and stay elsewhere so it is unfortunate that someone so close to the bride and groom did not enjoy their weekend at The Oaks. The bride and groom have expressed how wonderful the entire weekend was and that we truly gave them the wedding of their dreams.

We attended an evening wedding here, and the entire evening was a complete success. Kudos to the staff for excellent service and food. The parents of the groom said the staff was extremely helpful and attentive. Of course, the perfect weather helped create a memorable evening.
The grounds are beautiful, and the food was very good. Can't comment on the rooms, as we stayed off site.

Recently attended a wedding at this venue. I was impressed by the beautiful grounds and it was truly an amazing setting for a wedding.

Unfortunately, the facility did not make up for some major shortfalls in the management and staff.

If you plan on having guests with kids at your wedding - don't have it here. Basic standard amenities such as a changing table in the bathroom or high chairs are non existent at this place. Huh? Instead guests had to climb three flights to their room to change a diaper or do it in the rather public living room (there is no elevator - so don't plan on having your grandparents stay there either).

And the staff, while somewhat efficient were all pretty miserable and made no attempt at being nice to guests. The servers were abrupt and seemed annoyed when asked simple questions. The bartenders were down right nasty. I don't drink much, but had a couple of mixed drinks and the rest of my family had sodas. I didn't have change so I tipped them $20 and handed it to them. They were annoyed that I didn't reach over and put it in the tip jar. Seriously?

I have spent many years in service industries including managing a restaurant and I am very understanding of how it gets when busy. I don't however, think that guests at a fairly expensive Inn and event location should be treated like crap.

Fortunately, the wedding and reception were both great and we enjoyed ourselves despite the rude service.

My husband and I stayed at The Oaks for a wedding, and while the wedding itself was lovely, and the reception was fun, we were not blown away by the accomodations. Our room had an "underground" feel, and only had two small windows with mostly blocked views of an outside dance floor area. We were pleased to find a cozy gas fireplace in our room to create some ambiance, but when we asked the desk why the wall switch did not work, we were told that the gas had not yet been turned on for the season. Bummer.

When we arrived at the venue, we waited for about 20 minutes for someone to come to the front desk. We were understanding since it was a busy day with the wedding going on.

The property is very pretty, and the location would be nice for a couple looking to get out of town for a night and see St. Michaels since it is a short drive into the down town area. It is on the water, and on a nice weather day when a wedding is not going on, it would allow guests a very pretty area to walk around and sit by the water.

Our daughter's wedding was at The Oaks this weekend. This was a wonderful location for a wedding. It was really neat to have the entire location booked with family and friends. It made the weekend feel like it was our own personal resort. Our room was large, clean and had a great view of the water.

When we were ready for shopping, downtown St. Michaels was only 3.5 miles away. The town had plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops.

For the wedding, a family room is provided for lounging during the day and served as an area for everyone to check in periodically. The organization of the guests arriving, hot coca with schnapps, moving to the wedding service on the dock, to the cocktail reception and to the dinner was smoothly handled. The dinner was outstanding. The service was remarkable. I would definitely recommend this location for a wedding.

Katie & Kevin had a spectacular Fall wedding at The Oaks last year! I'd like to thank her Dad not only for this review but also for his kind words to me and my entire team while he and his family stayed with us. We so enjoyed hosting his family, the Grooms family and all of their combined friends for this wedding. A good time was had by all and we were truly honored to be a part of their special day!

We were guests at a wedding where the entire Inn was taken by the wedding guests. As many of our family members are raising families, we chose to take one of the most expensive rooms, advertised to have a water view. Upon check in, we were shocked to discover that this water view from both the room and a lovely private deck was completely obliterated by a tent erected for use in the event of inclement weather. We complained and were told that no one else had ever complained?? and further that there was a garden view...if you go to the small window on the other side of the room and stretch your neck...and it was a water view we thought we were buying. The Oaks may be a wonderful place for the bride and groom, but remember your guests and go elsewhere. This is NOT a friendly place.

Room Tip: Just go elsewhere

While I am saddened by this guests review and disappointment with their stay with us their feedback is very much appreciated and apologies extended cannot change their experience. As a partner in the wedding and hospitality business it is the overwhelming desire of The Oaks and our entire team to provide a friendly, positive and enjoyable environment for every guest that stays with us. We recognize that every guest has many options as to where they may chose to stay and we value and appreciate their business. My wish for any future guest would be that in the unlikely event they encounter an Oaks team member that is not trying to meet and exceed the guests expectations that it be brought to the attention of the management immediately. This gives me the best opportunity to address any challenges and concerns while the guest is still here. This is the best way for me to ensure that not only this guest is receiving the attention and care they deserve but all future guests as well.

We got married here this past summer, both of our families and wedding party stayed at The Oaks for the weekend and had such an incredible stay. The Oaks served as our "home away from home" and was the perfect setting to host our mini-destination wedding...our most favorite wedding memories include the downtime we spent together relaxing and participating in the ground activities at The Oaks. The Oaks hosted both our rehersal dinner as well as the wedding cermony and reception....both the service and food were better than we could have expected and our guests still rave about how wonderful the venue was. Every detail of the entire weekend was executed perfectly and went so smoothly - the absolutely know what they are doing which was the best feeling in the world! The Oaks staff and their reccommended vendors (whom we called our "A Team") really proved their care, dedication and hard-working mentality to us when they all worked together to change the ceremony location to the covered dock at literally the last minute before the ceremony due to a rain storm (with all 150 guests already having arrived!!!). I often dread if this scenario would have happened at some other venue, and I'm confident that it would not have been handled with such calmness and ease (which to a couple about to get married was extremely appreciated!) Our personal assistant, Carla, worked hard to make sure we had everything that we needed and enjoyed our wedding to the fullest extent possible - I would absolutely request her!!! The only complaint I can think of out of the ENTIRE weekend was that the ballroom was a bit on the hot side due to air conditioning issues...but again, it was August!!! Candy, the owner, Tracey, the general manager, as well as our coordinator for the weekend, did such a wonderful job making us feel at home and attending to our every need and concern....we felt as if we gained some new friends when we left that Sunday. We thank each and everyone of the staff members at The Oaks for making our wedding such a memorable experience for us and our loved ones! We look forward to visiting again :) Love, The Bargos
