Owner description: Historic and picturesque island in Chesapeake Bay.

We were in St Michaels and just wanted to see the "authentic" old fashioned "fishing village" area. The drawbridge was up when we went over to the island and it was up again when we returned....but I doubt it is ever up for too long. The ride was interesting with both the agriculture and fishing...and what looks like the new game in town: developments galore! Hope the new building frenzy does not detract too much from the beauty of the area. From the end of the island, it is a nice view. Also, lots of fruit/veg stands on the roadside!

You can still see the "authentic" Tilghman Island, the island of a working skipjack fleet and of the watermen and their families that inhabited the island. The views are lovely, and it's worth driving down some of the roads to see the different aspects the island offers. The day we were there, the birds played a joke on us. We spotted a brown, largish bird with a white head -- and I was excited! A bald eagle! It turned out to be an osprey, but they are amazing and gorgeous in their own right!

The room was clean and OK. The dinner at the House of OK but not great. The crab Imperial was marginal, but the cream of crab soup was excellent. There's not much to select from on Tilghman Island so the Harrison House was a decent selection.

Tilghman Island is a nice place to visit if you want to see what life really is like on the Chesapeake Bay away from the tourist areas of St. Michaels. It still has that rustic charm, real fishing fleets, and nice scenery. I enjoyed it.
