Owner description: Historic and picturesque island in Chesapeake Bay.

Stayed for two nights on Tilghman Island on a week long vacation through the Delmarva peninsula. I wished we had only stayed for 1 night. The views of the Bay are beautiful and it is nice to just sit and relax, but there isn't much else to do on Tilghman, unless you are into fishing. There are I think about 3 restaurants on the Island, a general store and a number of marinas. The southern end has a large open area right on the bay, so you can park and just look. We tried to hike on the Black Walnut State Park, but the trail was overgrown with grasses, and there were lots of mosquitoes and poison ivy on the path. Again, absolutely beautiful location, but limited activities.

Typical Eastern Shore town which harkens back several decades. What a delight to see all the working watermen and boats. it was a visit to my childhood. Time locked in the best way.

Follow the road to the end, pull up a chair and enjoy the view and the lapping of the waves. Feel fortunate to have riven down to the end of the road, worth the trip!

On our second day visiting St. Michael's we decided to return to the Drawbridge for a relaxing meal and drinks. The food is always good, althought a bit pricey....I guess the extra is for the water-front view and ability to watch the draw-bridge! All-in-all, worth the drive and price. We will return.

We were in St Michaels and just wanted to see the "authentic" old fashioned "fishing village" area. The drawbridge was up when we went over to the island and it was up again when we returned....but I doubt it is ever up for too long. The ride was interesting with both the agriculture and fishing...and what looks like the new game in town: developments galore! Hope the new building frenzy does not detract too much from the beauty of the area. From the end of the island, it is a nice view. Also, lots of fruit/veg stands on the roadside!
