Had the good fortune to spend a wonderful day and night at the main inn which we had practically to ourselves because of the time of year and not great weather- we had a wonderful room, the jacuzzi was great (we brought some Jameson's and candles which helped)- Heather was very welcoming and showed us around -I used the steam room (wonderful) and swam in the small but very sweet and warm pool- Spent some time at the Maritime museum which was amazing and had a drink at the Tavern Dock - lots of old timers which made it fun- we ate at Ava's which was wonderful- next morning had a sweet breakfast across the street (all to ourselves) and then I was treated to a wonderful massage by Marty. Wonderful, caring hands with just the right amount of manipulation/relaxation. Great lunch at the Tavern Dock with a spectacular thunderstorm on the waterfront. We'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Stay upstairs in the main inn- big rooms, great bathroom, balcony and fireplace

We spent a long weekend here and really enjoyed the serenity. The Inn is very cute and the rooms are very nice. The bathroom was very big. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch and reading at night. There isn't a view of the water which is a litte disappointing, but it was a short drive to the water. We were particularly happy with the inn because they are pet friendly and allowed us to bring our dog. Prices were very reasonable. The spa facilities were very nice. The steam room and sauna were great. The indoor pool was over-cholorinated so the whole room was kind of hard to breath in because of all of the chlorine smell (probably not good for you). St. Michaels is a cute little town, but not much to see really. Just a good place to go if you want to get away from the hustle and bustel.

Room Tip: I recommend the ground floor room with the back deck/patio.

I stayed one night at the Five Gables Inn and Spa at the tune of over $300/night with tax and breakfast included. For that rate you would think you would get a Ritz/Four Seasons/JW type of experience. Think again. The service was totally unfriendly. I arrived at 1pm and the first thing I heard was "you can't check in till 3pm". Nice welcome. They did check me in early but the room really could use some upgrading. The shower head was covered with mold and the floor boards need replacing or painting. The steam room had pretty noticeable mold on the ceiling and smelled of mold. The breakfast was a get- it -yourself bad buffet- the strata looked and tasted like it had been around awhile. All and all I would avoid this inn. They are resting on their laurels and charging crazy rates. There are other choices in St. Michael's and for $325 a night I would say you can probably have your pick.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere.

My wife surprised me with a nice Sun-Wed getaway here and we had a great relaxing time! We've stayed at a few other B&B's in other locales and honestly it is unfair to try and compare them because like people they all have their own personalities. Five Gables has a lot going for it and we will likely be returning in the future. Upon arrival friendly check-in, confirmation of our Rebecca T. Ruark Charter cruise with Captain Wade and lots of local info provided. The location can't be beat and unless you're leaving the town you won't need your car. Saint Michaels is a great little town with it's own quaint atmosphere, lots of great little shops, restaurants and eateries and not a chain-name in sight (except for the small Acme supermarket and a PNC branch), not even a Starbucks (and they don't need one)! In fact if you need a McD/Starbks/Applebees fix you'll need to go 9 miles back to Easton, Md for it. There're plenty of local streets to wander around and admire the quaint architecture. They have 8 or 9 bikes for free to use to get around but the town is small enough such that if you don't tire easily walking it is possible. Five Gables offers a relaxing way to enjoy the town for a coupla-few days and while the staff was helpful when necessary they make it quite easy to come and go as you please. As far as I could tell there was no one on staff overnight and in fact with your room key you are provided a key to get in and out of the part of the building where the rooms are, so if you need anything like extra blankets or coffee K-cups you need to ask before they go home. The rooms are smallish but not bad, plenty of window light, room darkening shades, a gas fireplace, heat/a-c unit (which we didn't even need to turn on), ceiling fan, king bed with firm but comfortable mattress, decent linens and pillows (the cover seemed a bit dated but quite clean), average size bathroom with a jetted tub/shower. The jets weren't all that powerful (ours at home is better) but man, I wish we had that kind of water pressure at home! Also beware as others have commented about the very hot water. The best thing for us was the heated indoor pool, sauna and steam room - very nice! Pretty rare among B&B's I think. There's also a flat screen TV/DVD with a decent channel selection and a CD alarm clock (no aux plug) but no telephone (although there was a telephone jack so maybe if you ask..). My Verizon mobile phone worked just fine however and there is free wireless internet with decent bandwidth. There was a small porch with chairs off the bedroom but off the main hallway was also a roof area with lounge chairs for some afternoon sunning (no drink service though, LOL!). Continental breakfast across the street in another building, as good as or better than what you get in Hampton Inns, etc but without the make-ur-own Belgian waffles. Since there's also an onsite Aveda salon with massage services (we did not partake) they also stock the bathrooms with Aveda samples to use, very nice. Common lounge area on first floor with Keurig machine and cookies and loaner umbrellas, ice machine and buckets adjacent to lounge in the pool/sauna area. No microwave or fridge in our room.

Room Tip: Talbot St. can be a little noisy during 'rush' hour so you might request a room that faces t...

The Inn is located right in town in St. Michaels. Walk to shops and restaurants. Unexpected bonus is they have plenty of bikes if you want to travel farther than Talbott street. The Inn itself is nice and staff were helpful. Adequate continental breakfast is in a building across the street , nothing special. Room was in the main house on the second floor was pretty much all bed which meant no real seating area. Nice Inn, but need to be more than that for the price they charge. Careful of the hot water, extremely hot.

Place was very nice and had so many choices of activities. Neat that they had bikes you could use as St Michaels is so easy to bike around. Fun that they have an indoor pool--nice adults only getaway. Rooms have been redone recently, I think , as the decorating was quite lovely. I would stay there again. A/C worked GREAT which says a lot in a humid summer. In-room spa was another fun surprise. Nice touches throughout (eg, DVDs, puzzles, available in parlor) and AVEDA products in the rooms. Service could be spotty, e.g, they ran out of breakfast foods and coffee when only half way through breakfast time. But that happens at a small place I guess.

Room Tip: If traffic noise bothers you, ask for one that doesn't face the street. If you like people watch...

My husband and I stayed here for a one-night, mid-week getaway with our dog. We considered the Inn at Perry Cabin, which also allows dogs, but their rates were twice as expensive for the date of our stay. The furnishings in our room in the main house were a bit dated but clean and were in keeping with a charming "cottage" feel. Our dog was very happy with the toy, treat and dog bed that were waiting in our room. Location is great, and we walked to Perry Cabin for a lovely waterfront dinner.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 4 in the main building, first floor, are on the ends of the building so they have 2 wind...
