The location is outstanding, the staff is outstanding and the room was outstanding. Does it sound like we enjoyed our stay? You bet. The breakfast room was very nice, and featured the largest coffee mugs I have ever seen. We stayed for our 5th wedding anniversary and it was well worth it. Rooms are very well kept and clean as a whistle. Staff in particular Heather could not do enough for us. Would recommend to anyone.

Highly recommend this inn! My husband and I spent a romantic weekend at Five Gables and loved the facilities, staff and vacation. After booking a deluxe king -- (check out last minute specials on their web site) - we were pleasantly surprised they upgraded us to a suite upon arrival. We stayed in 207 - in the recently renovated (green building). It was huge, decorated well, cheerful and very clean and bright with lots of windows.

The inn is located in the heart of St. Michaels - you can walk to everything. The staff were very friendly at check-in and helped us with restaurant recommendations and reservations (don't miss the Town Doc restaurant for dinner, but make a reservation to sit outside!). You also have free use of bikes at Five Gables, which we used for a nice ride to and through Harbortown and a beautiful golf course area.

We had breakfast at Key Lime Cafe next to Five Gables (great blueberry pancakes) and enjoyed all the shops. St. Michaels is a great place for a romantic overnight trip. We wanted to rent a boat but didn't have time. Very relaxing place.

If you reserve a room at Five Gables, I would say ask for the green building because that has all been recently renovated. I can't speak to the other buildings, did not see the rooms and think those are older.

Don't be confused it looks like a B & B, but it is an Inn, so don't expect that personal touch. The biggest issue for us; the staff was not friendly or helpful and it was obvious they preferred you didn't talk with them at all.
The room was adequate, but had an unpleasant musty odor. The in room whirlpool bath was the Inns best amenity; it was lovely.
They did provide a continential breakfast almost to the quality to a discount hotel chain. They offered spa services, however the staff refused to show us the spa room. (We thought this odd since we were already paying customers of the Inn and were interested in the services). The pool is very small and appeared unkept to the point we didn't want to use it.
This Inn is not on the water but it is priced almost as much as inns along the waterfront. So for value, accomodations and service I think there are many other place in St. Michaels that will provide a better overall experience.

My husband and I wanted to get away for a few nights and some neighbors recommended St Michaels. Quite honestly I did not know much about the town except that they were dog friendly and that some inns and b&b's allowed pets. I came across Five Gables and learned that they allowed pets for a small fee so I booked the room as we only stay at b&b's and inns. Five Gables is very pet friendly and that they provide a dog bed, a treat, and a big biscuit for your canine family member plus the room had a fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and down comforter. All rooms have hard wood floors and a french country cottage decor. Actually alot of the town has this decor. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and relaxing. All products in the inn are aveda so you really feel pampered. The inn has a spa. I did take advantage and got a massage however was not impressed for the $100 charge. The inn does have a pool, steam room, and sauna. We took advantage of all services. The inn provides free bottled water by the steam and sauna room. The only negative compliant I have is the breakfast. It is a continental breakfast with breads, muffins, cereal, fruit and warm yogurt. The coffeee and hot water was not hot. The breakfast is not what you would get in a b&b. We ate dinner at Characters Pub (bar like atmosphere) excellent seafood, Bistro at St Michaels (liked very much) and Town Dock (very good food and a great view of the bay). We had a takeout lunch from Big Al's and they have one of the best crabcake sandwiches I have ever had and very inexpensive. I highly recommend the Five Gables as well as the town regardless if you have a pet.

We stayed at the Five Gables Inn & Spa this past Sunday to Tuesday (July 30-Aug 1). I booked the room last minute on their web site to take advantage of the last minute special of 25% off the room rate. You can only get this for one night of your stay. We paid $131 and $175 for two nights. We were in Room 2. Staff were nice but not intrusive. We were allowed to check in early (2 pm). Room was small but nice and had a small porch with chairs.

The only real problem with the room is that DH's feet hung off the king bed by about 4 inches. DH is 6'3" and we could not figure out why the king bed looked so short until we looked underneath and saw that it was apparently two hotel twins together. Needless to say this was uncomfortable for him. Also, the bed has a very heavy comforter, but there was no dresser or credenza to put it on. We had to put a lot of our things on the floor for lack of tables. Otherwise the whirlpool bath was very nice and the Aveda products in the room were a nice treat. We rarely heard any other noise. They do need to give you more towels and washcloths. The robes and slippers were nice too.

The Inn provides afternoon cookies, tea, lemonade in the common area (and coffee in the a.m.). They also provide books, games and DVD/videos to watch in your room. We did not use any of the spa services. We also did not use the pool, sauna or steam room. I checked several times and never saw anyone use the pool.

We were in the main building and had to walk across the street for breakfast in their other building This was not a problem. The expanded continental breakfast was good. The breakfast room is decorated beautifully. The breakfast offerings were the same both days, no variation. Two odds things at breakfast: they have one glass and one mug at each place setting. for milk and juice I had to drink milk from the mug and juice from the glass, also there were no forks, we ate the hardboiled eggs with a spoon.

We had an outstanding dinner at The Bistro restaurant right down the street (recommend reservations as it is popular). Might be too far for some to walk to but you can find spaces to park on the street. Staff at the Inn are very helpful with recommendations. We took the short ferry ride over to Oxford and also drove over to Easton for lunch. It was a nice, quiet relaxing getaway, just what we needed.

We stayed in the top floor of the main building in one of the king rooms. It was a really pretty room with hardwood floors and a balcony overlooking thier back yard. We relaxed by the gas fireplace and had champagne and chocolates waiting for us after our massages (as per the romance package). We spent days poking around the shops and strolling around the town, taking steam baths, sunas, and just relaxing in our room! They provided complimentary bottled water and aveda bath produts. The inn is on the "edge" of town..easy walk to everything (fine resturaunts etc..) but in a nice quiet spot We had an awesome 5th wedding anniversary! If we returned to St. Michaels, that's where we'd stay!

I just returned from a stay at Five Gables Inn and Spa. I was a bit worried after seeing some reviews that were not favorable, but there was no reason to be! The room was comfortable, clean and decorated tastefully. The bed very comfortable and luxurious with a down comforter-not a hotel spread! The bathrooom was clean and roomy and Aveda products were provided. The expanded continental breakfast had a good variety and there was plenty to eat. We did hear the floorboards creaking overhead, but that happens in old houses! The Spa and treatments ( Aveda rosemary/mint herbal body wrap and a massage) were wonderful. My friend and I have both had various massages and treatments before and agreed that these were some of the best. The staff at both the Inn and Spa were pleasant, helpful and very professional. The pool area was a quiet, comfortable place to relax between treatments. Beware if you go when it is not high season-many restaurants/cafes have restricted hours. It was difficult to find a place to have lunch on a Monday afternoon. This quick trip to get away from it all was a splurge that was definitely worth it!
