“Harbourtowne Resort - always consistent!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 October 2010

My wife and I spent a lovely fall weekend in St. Michael's and this very nice resort. This was our 4th visit and it is always very consistent. They have beautiful waterfront cottages that are quite spacious and we recommend, golf, a pool, free bikes to use, lovely grounds and a restaurant, bar. They are also just a mile outside of town.

This is a good consistent value in St. Michael's and I would recommend it
again.

My wife and I enjoyed a great weekend with some old friends at Habortowne. The setting and views were outstanding. The resort was better than expected with fine service and clean rooms. The only negative note about our room were the mattress-- old and needed to be replaced. The only meals that we ate at the resort was breakfast and the buffet was just so-so.The golf course was an excellent Pete Dye layout but the course condition was below par . The greens were in very poor shape due to weather conditions. The Easton golf club located nearby was also in poor shape with 4 temporary greens. We enjoyed dinners at St Michael's crab and steak house as well as the Tilghman inn. Overall we all had a great time and would go back to Harbourtown resort

Second time here Rooms very nicely updated with matching drapes and bedspreads, fresh paint and carpets flat screen 38"tv very fresh looking even though the buildings are older. Many buildings with about 6 rooms per. very quite and spread out along the waterfront. Not a quaint harbor but a vast expanse of open water. Golf course and grounds are very well kept as is the pool area. As for sevice, i never went to Rest. or dining or bar areas as we did all of our meals in St Michaels or tilgman island which is why we came down to Eastern Shore. Great place to lay your head after a day of sightseeing. A good vlaue compared to some of the higher priced places in town and roomier and more private than a b and b.

I do really hope that the management of this beautiful place will read my review. The hotel is greatly located near St Michaels on a bay shore with all its rooms having waterfront view. Rooms are comfortable, marine styled, coffee machine available there, no refrigerator but ice and water are available not very far. Views, sunrises and sunsets are really great there. Restaurant is poor in terms of food and service. Breakfast is not very full of choices but sufficient. Many of the meals I had looked unpretentious and last minute cooked. A change is a must. Service was unpretentious and I will stop here. Too bad for the place. Good mark for the bar and its European beers selection.

My friend and I booked one night at Harbourtowne Resort in anticipation of an atmosphere we usually associate with a resort. We were not expecting the Ritz but this was little more than a golf motel. All of the rooms do face the water so there is that, however there was not a single boat or other activity on the water to be seen. When we arrived we were the only car in the parking lot. Other than two workers repairing a building, there were no other people outside. We walked over to the "Country Club" which turned out to be little more than a large outdated room with someone powerwashing the floors. Again, there were no people to be found.

After exploring St. Michaels (this can be done in under two hours) we returned to our "resort" in anticipation of having dinner and enjoying some atmosphere. As of 6 PM we were the only people in sight. The dining room was open, but no one was there and all of the chairs were on top of the tables. Not exactly a place where we wished to dine. We went back to our room (seemed tidy but not a tad of luxury; no fridge, tiny bathroom, bland surroundings). After sitting on the patio for 10 minutes without seeing another human, boat or any activity, we packed up and left. Of course the management promised a refund if they rebooked our room that night. FAT CHANCE! Go to Annapolis, Baltimore or even the other side of the Bay Bridge unless you like total seclusion in a "fancy" Motel 6.

Title says it all. The location is great, the buildings and the rooms in them scream late 1970s (and that isn't necessarily a good thing) and instead of the high quality seafood/shell fish we associated with this Eastern Shore location, Harbourtowne served up the kind of fare you might get at a Holiday Inn near a PA Turnpike exit. Were it not for the views and the charming little nearby town of St. Michaels, I would rate this place a notch lower than I did.

Harbourtowne is an aging, mid-range hotel with great location, its own golf facilities and some luxury pretensions that it cannot deliver without tearing down the buildings and starting afresh. The buildings are the typical concrete motel style with outside stairs. Rooms have been remodeled and mine was large and decent enough. Bathroom floor was sheet vinyl (it has been a very long time since I have seen that in a hotel) and the small outside deck (great views) has the typical faux railings (a board cut with a bandsaw to create a little design interest) and greenish, pressute-treated floor typical of 30 years ago.

It isn't that any of these things are a hardship or totally unacceptable. It is that Harbourtowne is NOT the luxury golf resort they imply it is on their website. Compared to other golf resorts around the country, Harbourtowne isn't very competitive. Bottom line? It is a fine enough place to stay if you can snag a great room rate and your expectations are in line with that discounted price.

What a beautiful property...
What a horrendous front desk staff.
These folks wouldn't undersand hospitality it it hit them on the head.
It is truly a shame that such a beautiful property was so poorly run.
The front desk staff seemed utterly clueless, and many members of our large party were met with blank stares, looks of befuddlement, and flat out impoliteness.
An archane cancellation policy...phone calls with questions about the policy were never returned by the management.
The "clubhouse" dining facility claimed to have "fresh-prepared crab" on its menu, which clearly was code for "have to send staff all the way into town to jump into the bay, fish it out, and bring it back." A word to the wise...order your lunch the night before you intend to eat it.

The guest canceled their reservation after the cancellation date given. We informed the guests that we would do our best and try to resell the room, if not they would be held liable for that night. Unfortunately we were unable to sell the room. We offered to split the cost of the night they canceled out of good faith and the guests agreed and were happy when they left. This comes as a surprise to see this issue posted.

As far as the country club menu, our crab is freshly prepared everyday, it does take time to prepare each item on our menu to ensure each item is prepared properly and to ensure proper temperatures for safety issues.
