Owner description: In the Exhibition Building, you can touch 20-million year old fossils taken from Calvert Cliffs; discover the ever changing world of the Chesapeake Bay; and learn how humans shaped and changed this region over time, working its waters for survival and profit. Visit the Drum Point and Cove Point Lighthouses; see our outstanding small boat collection, take a ride on the Wm. B. Tennison, a log-built bugeye, and experience the Lore Oyster House, a restored oyster processing plant. Touch a horseshoe crab or Diamond Back Terrapin, see skates, rays, and small sharks cavort, and watch otters, Bubbles and Squeak, at play. Stroll the marsh walk and spy water snakes, great blue heron, osprey, and hermit crabs in their natural environment. We are a community museum, established in 1970 by local residents determined to preserve the maritime heritage of Solomons Island. We are an educational museum, offering everything from the pre-school programs to Elderhostel. We are a research museum, renowned for documented discoveries in Miocene paleontology, and publications on local history based on original research. We are a relevant museum, staying in the forefront of environmental issues and offering a forum for public discourse on controversial topics. We are a partnering museum, actively pursuing opportunities such as the 1812 Grand Tactical that allows us to support and celebrate other institutions. Visit the Museum Store for jewelry, books, home decor, toys and all kinds of unique gifts for people of all ages!

“Great History Revealed”
Reviewed 14 April 2014 via mobile

If you're interested in learning about the local culture and history of Solomon's Island, then maybe this place should be on your list. I found it extremely fascinating to learn of the maritime experience boaters and fishermen on the waters of the Patuxent, Chesapeake and the Potomac. The views of the waterfront here are breathtaking. Try not to rush through, but rather take sometime to let it all set in.

“Hidden little gem”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

Our kids LOVE this place and so do the adults. From the otters to the historic boats, there is plenty to see and do. We typically spend about three hours there. They have great concerts as well.

“A Marvelous Treasure!”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

This small museum is a wonderful treasure. The children love it - including "bubbles and squeak," the otters. We adults love it as well. The combination of fossils, fish tanks, and social/economic history provides a great 360 of the region. No one should miss this museum, and locals can go repeatedly (as we do)!

“Pretty Cool Museum!”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

Looking for things to do and see in the area, we followed signs to the Calvert Marine Museum. There is a lot to see for young and old that could easily occupy 2 - 3 hours. Prefect for children but enough history and archiology to keep the adults attention occupied.
