“Disappointing drop in its previous service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

We have been to the Blue Heron a few times and this year the service wasn't what we expected on our last visit. I couldn't get Regan, the manager, to call me back and had to email or call 4 or 5 times to get a reservation. If we hadn't had such a great experience in years past, I would have given up. We realized at dinner time that the restaurant was closed for a private party and just closed completely the next night so we couldn't eat there this time. I would have expected staff to tell us in advance rather than us finding out at dinner time both nights. Our room was never cleaned or serviced and I had to go find toilet paper in a supply closet. We did get breakfast but it wasn't good and certainly wasn't the amazing meal we had on out previous visits. Most of the time you come in and the place is just empty and there is no staff to be found. I like the rooms, giant balcony, view, and location. It is a beautiful property and the rooms are pretty and clean upon arrival but the rates are too high for this type of service. I'll stay there again (maybe not right away) and hope it gets back to the standard that it was before.

We made reservations well ahead in advance to go to the Blue Heron Inn, which we had visited twice before. A few weeks after we made the reservation, the owner/manager called and said that there was a "miscommunication in the scheduling" and that she'd "accidentally" scheduled a wedding the weekend we had scheduled, but that part of our party could still rent the studio apartment, which we accepted. Then today, a week before our trip to Solomon's, we got an email stating that the guest who had reserved the apartment had a "family emergency" and she was sorry that she had to cancel our reservation. Solomon's Island is a beautiful location, with some great restaurants, but the Blue Heron Inn ended up being a very disappointing experience. We will frequent the other B&B's in Solomon's Island from now on!

Room Tip: Choose the other B&B in Solomon's!

The owners' energy is all on their restaurant, which totally takes over the first floor of the house. It felt as though the bedrooms were really just a sideline. The restaurant is very noisy, including the jazz music on speakers that come through very loudly in the bedrooms above the restaurant. I believe that the restaurant is open on weekends only, so I would recommend staying here only when the restaurant is not open.

We stayed in the suite with some friends of ours on the pullout, the hosts were wonderful, property is very nice. Everything in town is in short walking distance to here as well, enjoyed exploring the area.

We just returned from our first trip to Solomons. Thankfully we enjoyed the location, the inn however, was disappointing. We booked our room for 4 nights but our room was only "cleaned" on 1 of the 3 mornings. I use the word clean very loosely, as basically they made the bed and gave us clean towels, they did not clean anything-including at a minimum wiping the bathroom sink and taking away the used glasses-which they did NOT do. We were the only guests in the main house on Thursday night, I can't believe they couldn't come in and clean our room on Friday morning. At breakfast Friday morning I was amazed to see that we were given 2 small BOTTLES of orange juice and there is no fresh brewed coffee-only a Keuring, which you have to use to prepare your coffee yourself. And, we found out on Saturday morning, that on Sunday morning they do not provide a full breakfast to the guests of the inn, but if you want to eat at the brunch at the Bistro they will give you a $10 discount. Really? It would have been nice to know this when we booked. There are only about 5 parking spaces in front of the inn, but people staying at the inn do not get reserved spots. If you leave and a dinner guest comes in, then when you return you have to park your car down the street at the public lot and walk back to the inn.
This is not what I expected nor what I consider to be standard in B&B's that charge similar rates. As noted by an earlier review, the main focus appears to be the Belle Bistro that is operated on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. This inn has a beautiful location, but they are not making it user friendly and frankly I think missing a huge chance to make this a great place with just a few changes. If you do not provide daily room cleaning then your guests should be told that when they book their stay. A Keurig is nice for a cup of coffee in the middle of the day, but at breakfast, brew a pot of coffee for your guests, and don't serve the juice in a bottle-I could get that at a Hampton Inn for a lot less. Put some chairs out on the lawn so your guests at the inn can enjoy the view while your dinner guests are using the great room and the deck. And provide daily cleaning service.
They are charging for a 4 star inn and giving you, at best, 3 star service - hence my rating.

We just stayed at the Blue Heron Inn for our very first bed and breakfast getaway, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Even though the Inn was nearly full, it felt completely private. Our room was large and very comfortable, the place was immaculate, and the staff were warm and friendly; available without being intrusive, Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short because of bad weather, but I would have loved to stay longer at the Blue Heron.
A truly terrific experience for first time B&B guests! I would recommend the Blue Heron Inn as the ideal place to stay in Solomons, it is centrally located, but quiet and comfortable. Amazing!!!!

Especially since someone had connections and turned a 60% chance of rain day into the perfect weather for a waterside wedding. :-)

We booked all four rooms for two sets of parents; the bride and her maid of honor; and a room for the groom. Very spacious rooms and as mentioned, the 2 on the second floor have direct access to a balcony. The bistro level also has a wide balcony perfect for enjoying your morning cup of coffee with a spectacular view.

Bedrooms 3 and 4 are on the upper level, so climbing somewhat steep stairs is a must. Very quiet up there though.

The bathroom in #1 was huge and perfect for five bridesmaids to help each other and the bride get ready. The sitting area in room 2 provided a nice gathering spot for snacks during the preliminary activities.

The brick walk across the lawn to the water made for a perfect aisle for daughter and the water was the perfect backdrop for the ceremony and photos.

We rented 90 chairs and a 20 by 30 tent from a nearby vendor....the tent being a last minute addition because of predicted rain - but it ended up providing a nice shade covering from the sun.

We only ate breakfast at the Inn because our reception was at a private club next door, but the breakfasts were very ample and totally yummy! Lots of fresh fruit, warm banana bread and a hot main course served each day.

We slept very well, after the Tiki Bar noise flowing across the water died down....but since many of the patrons there that weekend were from our event, I guess we couldn't really complain. :-)

Would definitely go back for a quiet getaway.
