Owner description: The original house of Dr. Samuel Mudd, the physician who set the leg of John Wilkes Booth.

My daughter and I arrived within an hour of closing but received a wonderful tour, nevertheless. Because of our late arrival, we could have reasonably expected a condensed version of the normal tour but Mr. Rather was very accommodating and went well past closing time (and he must've been terribly tired because he stated to us that it had been one of his busiest days in a long, long time). Many, many things in the lovely home belonged to Dr. and Mrs. Mudd. Also displayed were some beautiful items the Dr. made while imprisoned. I highly recommend this tour! We enjoyed Mr. Rather's presentation tremendously!

I visited this house as part of a group tour. Due to the size of the house we were broken down into groups of 5 or 6.

Tour lasted about an hour and went through most of the house. Talked extensively about Dr. Mudd and his relationship with Boothe. The tour guide was a bit biased telling most the story from the Mudd family perspective, which of course does not believe Mudd was a conspirator. Other research will give you a more holistic view of the events leading up to and following the assassination.

House is well preserved with a large collection of Mudd family heirlooms. They also have an additional museum built in a separate building. Unfortunately I did not have a chance to visit that part. Property is well kept and on a nice day well worth a walk.

Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Discover this site through trip advisor Enjoyed the visit. Had a wonderful tour guide. she was very informative and engaging. Your lasted about 4m30 minutes. Woukd have lasted longer but it was raining and chose not to tour outside. There is an outside building that you can take a self tour and a trail you can walk around grounds.

This home has very limited hours, but if you can carve out the time to visit, it is well worth it. Docents describe in detail Mudd’s connection to the assassination and his life in prison. Many rooms have some original furnishings. The tour took about 45 minutes or so.
