Not many Italian restaurants in our area. I had been to Carmines in Smithsburg and the food was good but I never went back because I felt like I was in a cafeteria. The new location is nice, the waitress very accommodating but the service was slow but not her fault. They were very busy and according to our waitress understaffed. We were seated at a newly cleaned table that was still wet and smelt like Clorox.. so strong it made me nauseated. Although the food was very good, not cheap but not expensive either, the wine was also good and reasonably priced the atmosphere was lacking and very noisy. I felt like I was in a Diner. If you don't care about a relaxing dining experience and just want good Italian food, you'll like it. But if you want it all, as I do, excellent food, fresh flowers, candlelight, incredible wait staff and Frank Sinatra go to Il Portos in Frederick.
