Service impecable and the food was very good too. Seafood was fresh. Atmosphere was nice and the prices were average. Would go back if in the area again.

Had a great dinner with friends . The meals were excellent including both the beef and seafood dishes. There was an excellent variety to chose from. The only downside to the meal was the waitstaff. We ate in the bar area and the bartender served us, but her help was slow and not very attentive to the patrons. Hope the owner reads these and takes corrective action.

The outdoor patio is always our first choice in the summer. Set far enough away from traffic but still enjoyable to see the street.
Fruit of the Sea is our favorite choice with a large portion on great seafood.
Servers are pleasant and helpful. Always an enjoyable meal

Nicely situated in the heart of Barnstable Village, this is a restaurant that could and should be a LOT better... Pleasant outdoor seating was spoiled by an absentee server and food that was remarkable only in its complete lack of flavor. The stuffed sole couldn't have been any more bland, while the scallops - albeit sweet and fresh - died a sorrowful death of drowning via cream sauce. Prices were a solid 20% where they should have been given the lack of attention paid by both kitchen and wait staff.

BooDiggly: I am so sorry to hear about your experience at the Tavern. I am surprised that you didn't care for your Baked Stuffed Sole and Scallop dishes. Those are two of our most sold items on our menu and most customers love them and reorder them over and over! In fact, the Baked Sole is a personal favorite of my husband Bob Calderone, who has been a chef at our restaurants for over 20 years. As for the Scallops, it says on the menu, "Bacon, Scallions and Parmesan Cream" and more often then not, people ask for extra bread to soak up the sauce. I must apologize for my server not being attentive. This is very rarely the case. We are known for our friendly service and great food. I am sorry this wasn't your experience. As for prices, we have not raised prices here since we opened in 2005. We try and stay competitive while giving great value to give our local fans an affordable place to eat in the village. So, I hope you have an opportunity to return to the village and sit on our lovely patio and enjoy some great food and friendly service. Respectfully yours, Susan Finegold, owner

We had a very nice dinner in the dining room. Others seated around us seemed like regular local residents. From the clientele, it must be a reliably consistent in its quality and service. The Mediterranean seafood stew is excellent, lots of fresh seafood and good flavor. Good for family, kids, as well as older parents. Calm friendly environment.
