“Pleasant Sunday afternoon brunch”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

We were looking for a little getaway for brunch on a cool Sunday afternoon and after checking around various Cape restaurants came upon the Barnstable Restaurant. I made reservations on Saturday night speaking with Heidi who was a pleasure and who was also working on Sunday and saved us a nice booth. The restaurant has a rather limited brunch menu and is better suited for lunch/dinner, but I did find one option that I could enjoy - smoked salmon eggs benedict. My husband ended up having soup & salad since there was nothing compelling for him on the eggs side. Food was very good and service was relaxed and enjoyable (Ryan was our waitress). We would definitely visit again, perhaps for a dinner in tavern side of the house.

“Great Food and Service”
Reviewed 14 March 2014

This was not our first time, but food was great as usual. Although there were several people in the bar area, the dining room was almost empty and we are amazed that this is such a well kept secret. The menu is so extensive and everything we've gotten there is always topnotch. Rolls were right out of the over, hot and delicious. My husband picked something off the fixed price menu, so his dinner included a glass of beer or wine, and his selection included: appetizer (salad), entrée (mushroom ravioli with chicken & spinach), and dessert (brownie sundae). There were a LOT of items to chose from in each category. He was kind enough to share the salad and dessert with me (as there was plenty of food) and I chose beef tenderloin with gorgonzola sauce which came with starch and vegetable. All were excellent and the service was friendly and quick. We overheard a couple at another table raving about their dinners and how reasonable their check was!! We would have to agree. It was a wonderful dinner!!

“Denied discount and a spilled drink issue”
Reviewed 2 February 2014

Had tickets to cape Cod Symphony on a recent Sunday. Symphony site advertised Barnstable Inn offered 20% discount off lunch if you had symphony tickets. When we told waitress of our tickets, Discount was denied. Then, I took two sips of my Cosmo, only to knock it over accidentally, my sleeve catching on the glass. I would like a restaurant's opinion on this...do you replace drink free of charge, or charge for a replacement drink? What is protocol? Needless to say, not only was discount denied, but yes, charged for the drink too. These small annoyances do not bring in customers. Good faith and a little leeway go a long way.

“Perfection all around”
Reviewed 30 January 2014

We went there on a busy night when there was a play across the street. They have an extensive menu to look over. All of the staff seemed to know that there were deadlines, yet we never felt hurried or anxious about finishing in time. There were 4 of us and we each had something different, and each of us felt our food was delicious. It was well presented, and the staff served us impeccably. Highly recommended,

“Welcoming Dining on the Cape”
Reviewed 29 January 2014 via mobile

It was not our first visit to this restaurant and it never disappoints. An extensive menu with many local items. The clam chowder is amazing and the crab cake entree is great. There are local beers on tap. Service is fast and friendly. The building and it's tavern and restaurant are ideally located in the centre of Barnstable. Lots of parking behind the restaurant.
